bypassing factory oil cooler

This is for a 99 gst with the stock oil cooler. Is there a way to bypass it and see if it is my problem? I know I can connect the coolant lines but what about the center section? Would I need to buy another piece that has the right size threads so the filter sits flush? If it is possible, is it okay to run without it since I heard it doesn't do much anyways?

what problem are you having? it is possible, but if you look at the actual cooler, where that threaded piece go into it, it is recessed. on the filter housing itself it is not recessed, so you would have to do some machining to it. and finding a threaded piece for the filter to work with it all would be even harder.

oil and coolant are mixing. I think its the headgasket but I don't want to tear it apart if I don't have to. Is it possible to just disconnect the coolant lines and leave the cooler on there?
