buying an Elipse

I'm looking for information on buying an Eclipse it will be a project car and I wanna find a stock one. I'm looking at what I believe is the 95 to 97 or something bodystyle the more smooth body style not the newest one out but the one before that. (the body style of the neon green one in the first fast and the furious movie) So I was wondering if yall have any tips on what to look for.

Don't care what color it is, I want a FWD not AWD, I'm just basically asking is there anything that I should look for when buying one that I should stay away from or any tips or any good things I should look for.

The neon green one in F&F (fugly) is the 2g bodystyle. 90-94 DSMs (Eclipse/Talon/Laser) are 1gs, and 95-99 DSMs are 2gs. The Laser didn't make it into the 2g, the Talon made it up to 98, and the new Eclipses aren't DSMs (2000+).

I have a GS-T, which is FWD, but can I ask why you want a FWD and not an AWD? If you're looking for a turbo DSM, look for a 95-98 Eagle Talon TSi, or 95-99 Mitsu Eclipse GS-T, as they're the FWD turbo models with the 4g63 engine. The AWD models are TSi AWD and GSX. The N/T models are ES, ESi, RS and GS, which have the Chrysler 420a engine (also in Neons).

Do yourself a HUGE favor and read up on these sites, and here at Tuners, do a search (upper right) before you post a question, chances are it's already been answered a hundred times.

What is the big deal about the AWD I know they have the turbo and all but I was looking on to getting a FWD rebuild the motor and use Nitrous and maybe a turbo later. I don't care if the car I find don't even run. Is there really something greater about the AWD other than the turbo.

I didn't say I liked the one in the first fast and the furious I don't like the bodykit or color on it.
Do yall have any other recomended sites to go to for info on Eclipses?

If I were you, once I found one I was interested in, I would take it to the nearest shop that knows about DSM's and have them give it a once over as they will know what to look for. Probably be able to make certain checks or measurements that you probably aren't able to do quite yet as you don't know too much about these cars. That's what I'd do if i was in your shoes.

Now what is it that your looking to do? You say what is the advantage over having a AWD over a FWD? Didn't you answer your own question? ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE= AWD &
FRONT-WHEEL-DRIVE= FWD.

You only need common sense to know the difference. What i did is i went to google and searched for car reviews. The link i gave you is a good one but i'm sure there are better sites that explain what your looking for.

Before you "REBUILD" a motor or think about "NITROUS", do some reading and go to local DSM meets and ask the car guys what u want. I'm sure they will be glad to send u in the right direction.

They made FWD turbos too like the one I have..Wow you are like super new to these cars..

GST=FWD Turbo
GSX=AWD Turbo

Look at the tuning/Tech guide on this site please. You want the AWD man.. Whats all this power that your talkin about when you will just lose traction once the power hits? AWD will give you soo much better traction off the line. FWDs are better on highway runs though. But still dont make the mistake of gettin a FWD like i did..Because i finally am making lots of HP but shit it doesnt mean crap if i cant get it to the ground.

Dont just tell him that AWD is so much better. It depends on your situation. Ok.
Why FWD is nice -
1.Less parts to break. Referring to the drive line.
2.It can be easier to find parts for the FWD. Its a little more difficult to find AWD tranny's.
3.Found more oftten. I always see GST and Tsi's not so much GSX's and Tsi AWD's

FWD bad -
1.The more horsepower you have the harder it is to put it to the ground. You will need better tires and suspension.

AWD good -
1.Better traction. You can launch awd's and not even spin them. Great if you race at the tracks all the time.

AWD bad -
1.More driveline parts to break. alot of awd's have been beat on. High powered launches. Of course you always find those nice cars that were owned by grandparents.

There are many more good/bad things. Its hard to think at the moment. My gf is telling me to talk to her. (Cell phone and an ear piece) Cell phones arent always a good thing. But hey you gotta love the girls. Feel free to add on to my list, anybody.

AWD = Better traction and handling
FWD = Slightly Less weight & less drivetrain to break

Given the option, I would get an AWD, but if you want a FWD, they are generally cheaper, easier to find, and there's less things that can break on them.

I really want to turbo what ever car I get I'm just planning to get an import I like the way the eclipse looks so thats the car I picked. So yall are saying that this isn't a good car to turbo? I just love the sound of the blow off vavle so what ever car I want I wanna turbo. so should I decided to get another car there is other cars I like to the eclipse is just to happen to be the first one on my list.

Whats another car that can handle turbos well?

Dude have you not read what the other people said? Eclipse gst and gsx have stock turbo's. and the 4g63t engine. The other guys were saying that the eclipse rs and gs with the 420a motors are not the best motors to turbo charge because stock they are N/A. If you want a car that you can hear the bov get a gst or gsx. I suggest the gsx for reason mentioned in earlier posts. Also use the model guide on this website, it will help you out a lot!

I agree with inflames, confusedtuner go into honda forums and just skip ours cause we only confuse you. Your level of knowledge is about as good as those honda guys. So you would be accepted by them w/o a problem. They can tell you all sorts of good things about honda's like . . . . . a totally unnessasary sized exhaust! Seriously ask those honda guys, they know what they are talking about!

no, if you dig that BOV sound, you need to buy my daytona. It doesn't have an air filter, and the turbo has no intake pipes hooked up (the rubber boot was shot, so when I bought it and saw that some dumbass duct taped it on, I decided I needed to get a new one.... and haven't gotten around to it yet) so you can hear it spool really well, and when it blows off (with a recirc'd BOV) into the filterless intake, it sounds louder than anything I've heard before... It's only a SOHC motor (2.5 liter though) and the turbo is right next to the firewall, so it's a bi*** to work on... but the BOV is nice and loud, and that's all that matters, right? (and if you wanna know what it looks like, go look up a starion... it's def not the same car, but they look very similar)

Thanks for the help guys I know that n/a set up isn't that good for turbo but I couldn't be that hard to order a rebuild kit w/ forged internals and get it set up for turbo.

maybe yall are right eclipse and talons just isn't what I need so I'll probably go w/ a Honda.
