I have contacted slowboy racing, and they told me that they can get me my choice of their 57 trim, or their 60 trim for $660. For those of you who have run a 57 and or 60 trim, what are the major differences, advantages, and disadvantates between the two, and which would you reccomend?

Thanks!

The 60-trim will surge like hell if you're running stock cams and you're trying to achieve boost above 22psi. I don't know what it is about that wheel, but everyone I've known who has run one on stock cams reported surge issues just above 20psi.

Both the 60-trim and 57-trim are noted for airflow numbers not worthy of the added lag on street cars. Be prepared to run a lot of boost to make either of these turbos worth having. Your best bet is to find a deal on a good used 50-trim, preferrably NOT something made by PTE.

Depending on what boost level you're planning on running, you're probably better off with your 16G. Not only are 16G's hands-down more reliable on a DSM than any Garrett hybrid, but the 50-trim, 57-trim, and 60-trim will not "feel" faster than a 16G unless you're running 20+psi. You don't want to buy a bigger turbo to run low boost.

I have a journal bearing 57 trim and I personally felt a huge difference in power running only 18psi of boost, full boost is reached around 3800-4000 rpm and i was making about 350hp to the wheels. If I were to upgrade my turbo I would go with a gt35r, it's ball bearing for a fast spool and capable of doing over 600hp.

jusmx is right on that...i'd go with a new 16g.and still have some cash for a nice oil feed-line and return.

Street Cars all I run is is 16g though if you really feel you need a bigger turbo the 20g I helped my boy put on his last Eclipse (now drives an awd 1g talon) spooled nice and quick and 20g turbos are nice and capable.

Jusmx121 knows his stuff and I somewhat agree with him. I have ran a 16g for years and I would have gone with a larger turbo if I did it all over again. Even if you are going to run low boost at first, later on you will want to up the boost and when you do say goodbye to the 16g guys.

My car on e85 feels like a beast with its 16g but if I was running a 50 trim I know it would make much more power up top. May not feel as hard hitting as the 16g but you will have a smoother and longer power band. But like stated be prepared to run some good boost.

Right, but look at the boost you're running on your 16G. A 50-trim or HX35 would merit the boost you're running much better, but the O.P. hasn't stated his ultimate goal here. If he's not running over 20psi with the 16G that is currently on his car, then he's not going to be running over 20psi on his planned upgrade turbo, so the upgrade is worthless unless the 16G is blown and damaged beyond repair.

Why is this? Not looking for a debate but was just wondering?
You're making it seem like PTE's horrible reliability among DSMers is some sort of secret.

If you want a turbo thats going to last, I would stick with the 16g, or go with a 20g or a Hx35 depending on your goals!

i would think that the 57 trim would be better, by what ive read about em

I have had pte 50 trim and the 60 trim and neither one lasted on my car! Both ended with excessive shaft play and was properly oil supplied.. So its what ever, just make sure you have money put to the side for when they go out!

Justin, you ever figure out if the new Green HTA had the chinese td06H wheel and chra? BTW, the the wheel custom spec from FP? Or something off the shelf from another turbo HTA? It looks very similar to a fp red for an evo just backwards?
