buying a new motor

hey guys im buying a new motor loooking on crags list found a couple just wondering if any of you guys have bought them used online is it a good idea i found a couple between 500-800 dollars stock 4g63 6 bolt motors for my 1990 gsx i just dont want to get one and get it installed and it not worki currently have a lifer tick that is very anoying i got the car with intentions on fixing it up it also leaks oil not too much but it still leaks thanx guys

Why are you going to replace the enigine for a lifter tick? Lifters can be replaced in the car with it still timed. And why not just fix the leaks you have?

But to answer your question many people have bought used engines with no issues, but you never know if the seller is telling the truth. I bought a used 4g64 for a project, but I planed on totally gutting it out.

at the moment i dont have the skill to replace the lifters myself and ive been calling around and the price to swap them has been around 1000-1400 dollars i know someone with a 4g63 6 bolt who said for 1000 bucks he will sell it to me and do the swap plus the motor im looking at has about 100,000 less miles on it the only thing it need is my oil pan manifold and turbo im just a lil skecthy cause it has been sittin with no oil pan

for 1000 I bet you could get your problems fixed and have a little to spare. The motor that gets put in could have littler tick for all you know.

yeah that is what im thinking but it does leak oil in alot of spots im not sure ill ###### just bring it to a shop and be like hey fix the lifters and oil leaks
