Hey guys I'm new to the Mitsubishi game I'm coming from Hondas. So, anyway, I had my street bike up for sale for $1000 I seen an add on Craigslist for this stock 2g gst spider 5 speed with 180,000 miles I have not seen the car in person yet so this is all what he is telling me.. Long story short he wants to trade, it has some problems though. One problem is when you let out the clutch you hear ticking and my biggest fear is if that could be crank walk or maybe just a throw out bearing(I've been trying to read up on crank walk and it's making me nervous) second he said it shifts 1st-4th perfect but it doesn't want to go into 5th, he was saying it could be the shift cables from sitting to long?? Idk... But he said the motor runs good though. It also has a crack in the windsheild and a small hole in the convertible top but the interior is in good shape and the body is in good shape. Do you think that is worth trading a bike that's worth $1000?

A new tranny is 1k and a new short block is around 1500. You could always finds those parts used, but worst case you have a 2g GST with a new tranny and short block for $3500. I love DSMs so this is a no brainer for me. Do it. :hellyeah:

Those parts could both be scooped up used for under 1k, that is if you look hard enough.

Sounds nothing like the mythic crank walk that is ridiculously rare and most cases are not crank walk at all. Sounds like a normal throw out bearing to me. I've never personally seen shifter cables causing only 5th not to work it is usually multiple gears. Sounds more like a tranny problem maybe syncro. Over all if you were only trying to get 1k out of the bike, I think it is a good deal.
