Buying '95 Eclipse, appreciate input

Hey guys awesome site you have here, i've been a lurker waiting to find a car I like enough to drop $5,000+ on.

well i found one and negotiated the guy down to $5000 even and was wondering about his set-up whether it sounds like a good set up or is missing parts/poor quality parts, etc.

here's the mod list directly from his ad:


I had it up on a lift and it has a viscious lsd rear differential with 3.545 gears

Greddy tdo5h 18g turbo kit

Greddy type 24 intercooler

Greddy hard intercooler piping

Greddy Blow of valve

Hks Intake

Tial 38mm external wastegate

650cc injectors

255 LPH fuel pump

Full 3inch straight pipe exhaust

B&m short shifter(5 speed)

No grinds or sounds from trans(shifts smoothly)

Brand new clutch with 800 miles on it

No noises from the engine

front bumper was replaced with a 98 front bumper and has side skirts and lip on back bumper

Tein lowering springs

Nice rims(dont know brand) no rim rash

JDM Halogen headlights and JDM tail lights

Eprom ECU

apexi S-AFCII fuel controller

Have a boost controller that i will include( the car is still running on factory psi) the controller will be off Until i get it tuned....... Expect 300-400awhp

Panasonic in dash touch screen head unit(plays cd, dvd's, navi, bluetooth, ipod)

Has back aftermarket speakers and door speakers, and i have 2 subs and a amp that are hooked up

Boost gauge and air to fule ratio gauge in pillar pod

interior is in good shape except drivers seat has a couple rips in it

according to the seller, the only issue is a tear in the diaphram inside the wastegate. He said the tear is causing the car to max out at 5psi.

I'd say go for it, almost all the same mods as my 98 GSX and I paid $5k for it. How many miles are on the car? You should post some pics.

absolute first thing i would do is remove the god awful ugly wing

See if he'll take $4k and keep the wing and tail lights, the tail lights are EbayDM not JDM . Also, check the turbo for shaftplay, any in and out or side to side. And the LSD in rear comes in all the AWD cars, they all have a sticker on the inside of the door saying "This vehicle is equipped with viscous LSD" or something of that sort.

I'm having trouble finding a GSX with under 100k miles in the first place, let alone for 5k. I'd say go for it

i agree 5K is a worthy price of a clean car with a pretty good list of mods. I say 100% jump on it before someone else does.

Lose the euro lights for some stockies as well man. Looks and sounds like its a nice car though.

Ill agree with the consensus! Lose the wing and the tail lights for sure, but that gsx with under 100k, Id scoop!

check the underside and common areas for rust. i.e. strut towers, rear quarter, rockers. i would pull one of those side skirts and check those rockers good. p.s. i have a carbon fiber Eclipse high rise spoiler i'm looking to get rid of. PM me if your interested!

thanks for the input guys, yea that wing is just a tad ricer .

so does it seem like a solid engine set up?

how much do you think it would make to the wheels when tuned?

and the ripped diaphragm in the wastegate, is that an easy fix? and does it jive with his comment that because of the tear the car maxes out at 5psi?

any input would really be appreciated i'm going to look at the car tonight so just looking to squeeze some questions in.
