What do yall think about this.

Found a 420A long block for and Tranny for $150

#3 rod is snapped and one of the valves are snapped. (he broke the timming belt) said tranny was nothing wrong with it.

Now ive been in the works on looking into a complete build 420A-T

Im probably going to .20 or .40 im sure on the block and not sure if i wanna send out and get the head bored or just completly get a already built one.

So is 150 bucks fair for this and yall think i should go pick this up?? :hmm:

!!!! UPDATE !!!!

HERE SHE IS. ITS NOT A FULL LONG BLOCK. DIDNT COME WITH THE CAMS OR GEARS.

Really i thought it was actually a good price because all i could find was short blocks for 200 bucks plus this guy has it in his garage 30min from me already pulled. And im not really reuseing like the rods and pistons all thats going to be new.

Maybe it's a location thing, supply and demand, but if I were going to build a 420A-T, that sounds like an amazing deal. Spare transmission is worth that alone. The extra block just means more build time on that engine and less down time on your car :thumb:

Well thats exactly what i have in mind .... going to stock up parts over the winter and spring and do a summer build most likely.

Plus i have my 06 Goat if the eclipse has any down time :hellyeah: LOL

Im going sat to look at it. This will be my first build ever reserching every little thing i dont know yet. Like can i take a magnet and pull the piston out? im sure i can and im probably answering my own question here. LOL

Well just an update. I went over to that guys house looked at the motor. it looks fine connecting rod that snapped didnt scratch the block so thats good news. Im going back to pick it up in 2 weeks when i get my side job money. He is going to hold it for me he wanted $200 for everything but gave it to me for $150 (block, head(missing cams and gears), and tranny) :)

Im sure you ment to say .020 or .040. Take it to a machine shop and see how much they say needs to be bored as this does not add noticed HP and the bigger bores weakin your walls.

You could find a running motor for that price. Keep looking man.

And go ahead and get that head bored too.

:D Come on Dave everyone knows that boring a head adds torque. I think the OP was looking for the term "shaving the head".

I was leaning on the more .020 after ive been resurching on this turbo build. theres a shop local right down the street from my shop that said he does all the resurfaceing. so im going to take the block head and crank to him and have him clean everything up.

It's pretty normal to have your block bored to .020 on a higher milege engine but still you want to do as little as possible. After years and years a cylider wall will get scratched and even become oblong. Boring is done to make sure the cylinder is concentric not to add power. Just thought I would let you know cause a lot of people find this out after they buy .040 or even .060 over bore pistons thinking they need to bore out as much as possible. To illustrate the difference between stock bore displacement and a .060 over bore is this.

stock dis. 121.829615840625 CI
.060 over bore 126.04243423001999 CI
Thats only a 1 percent inclease while maxing out your bore. This is not to be confused with stroking a motor.

Yes i understood that on another theard that i read last night. Thats why i will probably just do a .020.

The search on here answered a few of the questions i had.

I used my video camera from my phone as a light imma see if i can upload this vid on here to show yall what im getting into. (no vid on the head)

Also i do have a question.

can i run the 8.8:1 compression pistons for awhile before installing the turbo?

UPDATE::

Here is the video i just uploaded to youtube.

For $150 i think its worth it for the block head and tranny

Yup some would argue that is better to break in the motor like this.
