Toronto,
Hello everyone, as you might see I am new to this forum but finally found something dedicated only to DSM. I am planning on buying G2 Eclipse GSX within a year and I am doing my homework now on what I need for my car. My general knowledge of cars and performance… lets say 4 out of 10. My dilemma is that should I get earlier G2 like 1996 to 97 Eclipse and drop newer engine or buy 98-99 and leave if as is (engine wise of course). I was thinking of buying or importing Evo 8 engine from Japan but I think you can’t put them in G2 Eclipse, can someone let me know…. If so I will defiantly buy 97 model and get that engine. I know what mods I need at first, my plans are:

Outside:
Blitz Full Body Kit
Tri Layer Paint Job (Fly Yellow with green purls and double gloss coat)
18” rims
Lower front and back 1.5”
Rear supra light conversion
GT2 Spoiler
And more next year

Inside:
After marker Intake
BOV
Electronic Boost Controller (HKS)
High Flow catalytic converter
High Flow Downpipe
O2 Sensor Housing
Cat back 3” exhaust
Exhaust Manifold
And maybe FMI if I have enough money left
Next year Garrett hybrid 16G Turbo and more

So my main question is weather I should by an older G2 and get a newer engine like EVO8 or just get 98-99 GSX. I want this car to be fast but still be reliable and last me some time. Let me know what you guys think

Evo 8 engine wont work, it sounds like you have it confused with the 6-bolt motor. All 2nd gen turbo eclipses have the same motor (7-bolt 4g63t). Look for a 2nd gen eclipse with a 6-bolt thats the main thing to do, the only reason is because you dont want crankwalk. Dont worry about mods, get the car and learn a bit first.

Okay so there ARE G2 GSX's with 6 bolts which I can buy? and then Drop Evi 8 in to it?

If it's used you might be able to find one. It's not that big of a deal in my opinion but if you come across one with a 6-bolt motor it's good to know that it's a good thing.

Okay I am kinda confused, so there are 7 and 6 bolts G2's? And if I come across 6 bolts G2 Eclipse I can or can’t drop new EVO8? Because I want this car to last and not worry about a lot of maintenance...

Thx for your help

the only 2gs that are going to have them are swapped motors.

Swapped motors 2g's with 6 bolts? I don’t get it man... then can’t I swap it my self?

Let me know if there are ANY way in this world to get that engine in? :)

:| You pay someone to do the engine swap kiddo...if you're getting a 2nd gen gsx just try to find one with a 6-bolt it's not a big deal if you can't, just get the car and then worry about everyting else later.

I didn't mean my self as ME, of course someone else will do this ... and if 20 y/o is a kido... let it be...
I meant in stead of buying swapped engine car!

I have to worry now because I can’t make decision now. Its ether I find a way to get new EVO8 in 2G and get 97 GSX or Get 99 GSX.... So there....

PS: If I can get the EVO8 Somehow do I have do to any special mods to the frame of the car, drill anything or it fits right in?
And EVO8 Engine I am referring to is the LANCER EVO8 CAR with T28 TURBO & 275 HP stock

The engine in the evo 8 doesn't sit in the same position as the one in a 2nd gen eclipse, why go through all the trouble when you can get the 6bolt from an evo III? You are worrying about the wrong things it seems. 6bolt and 7bolt motors are more than capable of producing power, quit worrying about the motor from the evo 8. There are no major mechanical differences between the 97-99gsx, hell there aren't any major ones in 95-99. Just get a 2nd gen awd and go from there. I dont want to sound like an ass but to quote what i once read on here, read the boards and give it some time you'll figure out the answers to all the questions you're asking.

A good 2g would be one with a 1st gen motor (not counting the 2.4 liter hybrid), to avoid crankwalk, the differences between 1st gen 6bolt and 2nd gen 7bolt are here:

welcome to the boards.

Thank you for the info, I saw the diff before, I read up about for few days before I started to post today but see the thing is that I want a NEW engine or at least with 24KM on it MAX, nothing OLD, If I can get 1G engine with 24K show me where? :) PLus EVO8 STOCK is 275 HP where older once are 210 or less... see my point?
So I can put EVO8 but it will be too much work and money? :dsm:

what is your problem?
Are you NOT reading anything that I"m saying at all?

I told you already that an Evo 8 motor will NOT work in the car. So get that threw your head already.

It has more horsepower because it has a different turbo then both the 1gs and the 2gs.
Why dont you get an n/t and swap on a turbolite.

You cannot swap in an evo8 engine in your 2g dsm or 1g dsm.

People have said this to you time and time again.
Now also I'll point out what other people have told you also.

Only 7bolt engines came in the 2nd gen "dsm" series STOCK in the United States. If you find one with a 6bolt then it's been swapped. People have told you this and you seem to not listen. Also as far as the "stock engine in the evo having more horsepower" than the 2g's and 1g's both do stock.

Why don't you go see what turbo they are running stock and also the amount of boost they crank out in stock trim compared to our dsm's.

Check out the "vfaq" section we have uptop to find out more about the 90-99 dsm's.
Also check out um...

With stock internals it cost me 900 for the block, 300 for the head.
