my car burns about half a court of oil every 3-4 days. my turbo had alot of shaft play so i replaced it with a new one and it still smokes... is it possible that an oil sensor is bad and leaking or sending 2 much oil to somewhere it isnt suppose to be? if you dont think this could be possible please give me a few other suggestions i could check out. thanks

Isn't white smoke coolant? That would mean you need a new head gasket. Make sure there aren't any leaks anywhere. Nothing decides where to send oil, it just flows.

im not sure... it might be but my coolant is still full... where is all my oil going? haha

***(also there is NO oil in my coolant over flow tank)***

Usually, yes, white smoke is coolant. However, in the case of a blown turbo, it's almost always the oil burning that creates the whitish-gray smoke. Some have said that synthetic oil burns whitish-gray as opposed to the usual bluish tint smoke that other oils create when burned. In either case, make sure that the intercooler pipes and intercooler are free of all oil residue. In most circumstances of blown turbos, they spew oil by the quart into the LICP and SMIC. In addition, I would check the exhaust and O2 housing to make sure they're clear of oil residue also. Following that, do a compression test and/or leakdown test to see if anything in the engine/head is leaking.

ok thanks ill do a compresion test in the AM and ill post the numbers up tomorrow.

any opinions b/c on my friends gsx he was buring oil but not nearly as bad as me and he had a bad oil sensor.

white smoke actually can be several things. i had white smoke once, and it was because i blew piston rings. do a compression test, im sure, one or more cylinders would have low compression, just pray for it to be the head gasket only, if thats the case, you can pull apart the head yourself, its not hard. at least take out the valve cover, and check the oil, to see if it had a milk color, it could be that coolant is getting into oil. good luck. :thumb:

I also had white smoke after we got my engine back together. Turned out to be rusted piston rings. Could also be coolant of course.

another thing though is that it does not smoke all the time. only when i turn the car on or put the throttle at 100% for a few secs
