I am using a stock 14b turbo with a bullseye housing. The turbo has never sealed good with the new housing. exhaust leaks out, between the turbine housing and the turbo. I also have a small boost leak around my compressor seal.

Opions I have are too get the CHRA 18g from forced p, or go back to my stock turbine housing, or both.

My car suffers from lag and no top end.

I have...
FMIC long route pipes - lag
680cc injectors
afc2
2gmas
bullseye housing - no top end
2.5" downpipe and exhaust
15psi 14b

What should I do? I'll spend the money if it will give my car new life, but I'd rather do whatever will be more worthwhile. It feels so slow right now.

I would call David over at Bullseye and talk to him about it. The exhuast leaking problem may be as simple as the turbo not being seated properly in the housing.

Did you grind off the small alignment pin from the lip of the center section?

Assuming you did and the problem pertains to the Bullseye housing, I would swap the housing out for the stock one. A leak at that junction will cause all sorts of problems with lag and loss of top end. A ported stock 6cm^2 housing will work fine with the 14B.

Anyway swaping a turbine housing is simple. Its all of about 7 or 8 bolts. I think the last time I removed mine it took me 20 minutes.

So you lost a good deal of turbo response from going to long route fmic piping from stock piping? I've been contemplating fabing my own fmic with long route piping but I'm worried about the extra lag with a smaller turbo like a small 16g.

Swapping housings is a little more difficult with the bullseye, because of the way the turbo is held in.

I did get lag caused from the long route pipes. Just try to route them as short as possible. I'm sure I could have done mine a bit different, but I wasnt thinking.

When I swap back to the stock housing, should I got back with my stock manifold? I have a slow boy manifold right now. thanks for your help.

Well did you grind down the alignment pin on the 14b where it attaches to the turbine housing?

You will need to port out the 6cm^2 turbine housing inlet a good amount to match the 7cm^2 collector on your SBR manifold. Also what are you using for an 02 sensor housing?

the locator pin is no more. It actually fell out, and was more of a pita to use anyways. I have a brace to keep the turbo from spinning, because when it heats up, you can clock the turbo any which way.

I have a stock o2 housing I ported. I hate this car. Someday I'll get around to putting the stock turbine back on. But would it be worth it to sell the sbr and go back to stock manifold as well. i'd port the stock manifold and turbine housing just the slightest bit, to get rid of the lips and smooth it up a bit. thanks for you help, keep in mind I hate this car.

i am having the exact same problem with my 14b bullseye combo. it seems the snap ring they supply is A: too thick. B: isn't large enough to put force on every sides in order to hold itelf in and C: the turbo center cartridge isn't flat where the snap ring goes so the snap ring can't go in flat.

i have a brand new fully ported sbr manifold. attachted to the bullseye and a 2.5" tubular o2 with wastegate recirculate.

for the 30 minutes that the turbine wasn't leaking. my car has never pulled harder. the power comes on so fast and so strong. then it started leaking and i lost all top end. even though it spools and i reach my pressure(takes forever) it doesn't seem to pull any harder.

i'm actually kind of pissed about this. i bought the bullseye cause i planned to get it first, then get a 18g so i could get my upgrades in installments instead of blowging a ton of cash i would never be able to save for.
don't sell the sbr. don't sell the bullseye. talk to the guys up there and see wtf the problem is and why they supply such a shitty interface. the machining is brilliant and the the housing's function works sooo well. but the fastening system sux.
i plan to call them today and see wtf the problem is.
unless they would like to answer this post?

Ya i had a hell of a time getting that snap ring in place on my evo3. Actually thats how the compressor side of my turbo got smashed and now i'm on the hybrid listed in my profile. I agree that there needs to be a better way to put it together.

In all honesty...Why would you buy a bullseye housing for a 14B? The tdo5 is fine with the stock housing. Once ported the 14b is capable of producing its max hp. I think using a bullseye housing on a 14b is like using a cannon to kill a firefly. OVERKILL. I use the Bullseye housing on my HX-35. Seals great. If you have a 14B, T-25, or 16G port the crap out of and use the stock housing. You could justify a 20G or bigger, or if you wanted to use a large Garret style turbo on your DSM, But I cant see going through all the trouble, and expense for a 14B. Just my .02. :dsm:

BTW why do you have 680cc injectors on a 14b?..You don't have top end because your probably spitting fuel out of your tail pipe at 15psi. Once again OVERKILL. Either swap your injectors back down to size, or turn your boost up a bit. Leaning out your AFC should eliminate fuel cut, and on 680cc injectors 20psi is totally obtainable even with your AFC leaned out by -20. BTW it doesn't say but do you at least have a pump? It seems to me that you've jumped around a bit and strayed off of the suggested upgrade path. The path is proven and provides room to grow while giving you the parts in an order which will lead to success. When all else fails go back to basics.

i agree its a bit much for a 14b.
however. that was not why i bought it. first and foremost i needed a new turbine cause mine was cracked all to shit didn't have enough money at the time to upgrade to a bigger turbo. but had to do something quick cause the turbine was literally spewing exhaust into my engine bay. seriously it was bad. so porting was not an option
so knew i wanted a larger turbo to meet my goals.
i couldn't afford one... i got a bullseye housing so that i wouldn't be wasting my money on another stock tdo5 housing, only to buy another one later with a turbo. the bullseye wasn't much more than a new Mitsubishi one. steel no more cracking, much larger wastegate and i got it on sale. so it was a logical choice.
and given that i could have gotten a tdo5 18g chra for 429 via forced performance. i was sold. plus it was to mate up perfectly to my new ported sbr manifold and 2.5" tubular o2

upgrading in installments just works for me. cause I'm a college student and putting things i don't need on a credit card is just asking for it. i don't really buy anything i that isn't going to help me in the end. but I'm also not the kind of guy that buys only the bare minimum to get the desired timeslip.

if FP sells tdo5 20g cha's then I'm going to nab one of those instead.

K im going to throw my comments in here LOL. I myself have a turbine housing from bullseye. I replaced my old housing because i found out my big 16g was stuffed into a 14b housing.. not cool. So I ordered one from these guys.. hard a hard time getting the 2 sections to come together well so I just sent the whole turbo to bullseye and they put it together for me. Easy stuff. Now with the new housing compared to the old.. takes about 500 rpm longer to spool... but pulls all the way through the RPMs unlike the old one which died up high. Im a happy camper now.
