Im very new to the 4g63 motor internal world. the car im looking at buying is a 92 with the following crap into the motor-

JE 9:1 pistons
Eagle Rods
Balance shafts eliminated
Head o-ringed by BR and ported by John Shepherd (titanium valve springs)
Crower Cams
BR Extrude Honed Intake Manifold

I know quite abit about all supporting mods and somewhat of an order to do them. my question is with these new internals would this change the redline? and what would be a safe HP range for this setup (Yes properly tuned and modded)?

well bench racing isn't allowed on this site.

Plus that high compression is going to be knock happy.

The answer is it depends. The question is was the work done by a reputable shop. Anyone can throw pistons and rods into a engine but was the crank polished, cylinders honed, block decked, and was your rotating assembly balanced? Also, what type of bearings, head gasket, and timing belt?

Not sure, im meeting the guy tomorrow. ill ask then.

Can anyone explain the difference in piston compresson to me? the car im looking at has 9-1, how does that compair to 8-1 or 7-1. what does that do? i told ya im a noob when it comes to this stuff.

If you want a round about answer, I would say 400 whp would be safe and reliable. I know a guy from the tennessee area with a yellow EVO VIII having identical modifications as your car (even the 9:1 pistons) and he runs a little over 500whp and is in the mid 11's. He's had this setup for quite sometime with no issues other than he is burning a little oil. I hope this helps you with your question.

there is no real comparison it is all depending on how you are going to be using it, if you are going with pump gas you would want it lower to not induce knock like pimking mentioned earlier if you're using a higher octane gas daily like e85 i dont know how accessible it is to you but it runs a higher octane so it can deal with the 9:1 ratio and not induce as much knock, it also really depends on who is tuning it, too much advanced timing kill your setup so just be cautious, but then again i have a buddy with a 2g with a built stroker and tons of boltons with a 9:1 ratio that is running pump made 400 and change on a dyno dynamics which a descent number hope this help
