Built Motor no paperwork

Long story short, i bought a 6 bolt longblock from a woman who sold husband's motor who didn't know anything other than it was freshly rebuilt. Everything is brand new from what i can see including cp pistons, arp head studs, timing components, etc. The only bad thing is there is no paperwork so i dont know much about the longblock such as the clearances or the compression ratio for the pistons. There is a good shop that specializes in dsms but its 4 hours away. Is it worth it to make the long trip or should i just have a local shop to inspect it or just slap it on and hope for the best?

There should be part numbers on the pistons, that'll get you an approx. compression ratio. You could easier plasti gauge the rod and mains...

If you explain yourself to a machine shop, any reputable engine builder can plasti gauge bearing and main caps. You can get part numbers on Pistons...


Hopefully someone can chime in on wether or not to they would check piston ring gap...

Or you can pony up!! and Just do it yourself, any auto store has plastic gauge and most important you can inspect all parts and clean, clean ,clean ,clean and clean the oil supply galleys ...
Why expect others to care more about you; than you?

Besides crank/rod/oil pump gears/piston ring clearances , everything else is very easy to identify with out any real disassembly.

This is an opportunity for you to walk past that line that you haven't yet crossed, and come out more informed and experienced for it.
Or its a lost opportunity and hopefully not a lost engine as well.
