Just like the title says. I built a datalogger cable and it doesn't work. I've reviewed everything I can find on this site, Talk and Google, etc... I built it according to spec, checked all my connections and so on. Here's some pics, did I build it wrong?

What all other parts are you using? What programs? for some reason if IIRC the picture in most the write ups actually is for a PC cable. might be wrong there though as I don't know what you used to fallow to build it.

IMHO I wouldn't use any serial logging cable or palm... . they're getting so dated and are just more hasal then it's worth. syncing then converting files to CVS ect. Nevermind if you don't have a SD in the palm and lose everything.

Have you seen this? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/424006-easy-way-make-1g-usb-datalogging-cable.html As he said you can use it with a number of programs.

I actually did a quick right up on how to log with TunerPro RT See Here --> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-tuning-ecu/429444-how-log-your-1g-tuner-pro-rt.html I used a V3 Ecmlink cable but you can use the cable above or what your building as well with a
USB to serial adapetr that has a FTDI chip set and you download the proper drivers.

But,
A USB to RS232 Serial Converter with a FTDI chip like in the link above mine set is cheaper to build then a decent Usb to serial converter like a the keyspan one you needed with V2.5 Dsmlink.

Saves a lot of time to jsut log with a cheap small PC. No worries about losing your logs syncing things and it WAY easier to share logs with other programs then say MMCD on a plam you can use a Palm Emulator as well so you can still use MMCD with out the hassle and still easily share logs still if wanted.

This is for a Palm. Palm V to be exact, using MMCD. I agree with everything you said about Palm based datalogging; however, I just dropped $3500.00 into my motor, trans, etc... So, I'm tapped out at the moment. I planned on doing Link in a few months but I need to dial in the car in the mean-time. Thanks a lot for the links, maybe I can pull something together with the USB cable and my old laptop.

Back to my original question... Do you or anyone else see anything wrong with how I built the cable for the serial connection?

It looks like you have the diode connected to pin 1, when it should be connected to pin 2.

The ground also appears to be connected to the wrong pin, number 4 from your pic, and it should be tied to pin 5.

Although it is kinda hard to say exactly how the ground and diode are pinned to the db9 connector from the angle of your picture. Here is a db9 pin number reference if you need it to troubleshoot your cable connections.

You were absolutely correct. Switched the pins and everything worked perfect. I feel like a complete dumbass. Thank you very much for looking closely and spotting my fu(k-up. Rep points for you sir.

I'll mark this as resolved and hopefully will save some other people from the headaches.
