So after I looked at this article I decided to try it out, except i'm being a bit more ambitious and putting putting a layer of plexie glass with red led lights in the place of the embossed section and only doing one logo.

The only problem is I dont see how I can make this and have the spare tire in there. I feel really dumb asking this question especially considering the other more techinal work im going to do which I feel confident I can do because I already mounted one in the front below the radio, and two in the back. Than I also replaced all my regular lights in my gauges and center console with leds. I just dont understand how it is suppose to be mounted in the trunk and have the tire in there. I mean I could have it with out the spare tire but that just doesnt seem right. There has to be a way to have both right?

I've done the plywood trick before. I used a 5/16" section of plywood with using the fabric cover as a template to trace on the plywood to cut out with a jigsaw.

I never did the finishing like in the article since my back end has my tools and whatever goes back there, (even though, being a '90, the vehicle came with the privacy cover over the hatch area). thus didn't want to destroy whatever carpeting I would put back there.

True, leave the spare alone - they DO come in handy when needed.

Ditch the spare and buy a can of "never flat"

Besides, that's what CAA (in Canada) is for...you guys have AAA I think LOL

What does being AWD have ANYTHING to do with not keeping a spare over a FWD?

If you have a different size rim so lets say 18", its not the best to throw one smaller tire on as it can damage the diff.

And a FWD can rotate a rear tire to the front and put the spare on the rear where there is no rear diff.

i removed my spare tire and tools just for a little bit of weight reduction and because the previous owner of the car let water get in the truck and it rotted the spare tire cover :ohdamn: so ive thought about cutting a thin piece of plywood to the dimensions of the trunk so itll fit perfectly and cover it with black cloth and mount my sub and amp to the top of it so they dont slide everywhere when im driving. just an idea.

after posting that idea, ive decided to do it :D and its almost done actually. ill post pics as soon as its finished. should be within the next day or 2.

Actually, the diffs couldn't care less; it's the VC(s) that won't be happy if the diameters are off by too much.

Assuming OE drivetrain.

finally got the pics. i bought a sheet of plywood from lowes and cut it to fit the contours of the truck, mounted the amp to it and cut a square to slide the sub down in it. pretty easy, cheap, and looks pretty clean. and yes i know i need to paint my trunk.
