well im building a brand new motor for a DD 93 tsi awd 6 bolt. so far the head is done at the machine shop all new valves and stuff. wondering if its worth getting some cams or something ? if id see improovements at all with just a evo 16g...

bottom end is still being worked on at the machine shop just big 1g rods wiseco 9:1 40 over new bearings oil/water pump everything.

just wondering if i should get cams or adj cam gears at all ? love the rumble of 272s but dont know how those would work with that turbo...

or some other stuff that i might see a decent improovement on..

setup is evo16g evo exh manifold evo 02 housing (gotta find a turbo back exhaust yet) stock IM 680cc injectors 3" GM mas and trans tial BOV blow thru setup and a smaller FMIC from extreme intercoolers and an SAFC.

was just gonna run an AEM EMS in the car but didnt feel like spending the extra money. and i had a setup like this in my old talon and loved it.(besides it was a stock motor)

If you have no porting and stock size valves I would go with the comp 100 cams. You will see a noticable torque improvemnt over the stockers. If you have porting and oversize valves then you would have air flow for some larger cams.

Cams are great for just about any set-up. Will it benefit you froom a 16g? Sure, but you would benefit more running a larger turbo that can flow more air. Regardless, I would definitely opt for them since it is no extra work to have them in.

I went with Comp 200s but between the 272s, comp 200s, and Fp2, you can't go wrong. I'm not sure if I would recommend cam gears or not since I don't use them but if your looking to go all out, which I would assume your not by running an Evo3, I wouldn't even bother. Unless you have access to a dyno and can have them tested on which degree makes the most power, I wouldn't.

There are guys running 10's and 9's with stock valves, you'll be fine. When dealing with really aggresive cams, the only thing that is needed are stronger valve-springs. Porting and oversize valves are not needed, especially with an evo3 daily-driven, street set-up. You'll be fine with 272's with your stock head, and it'll definatly help out your top-end. All the best with the new set-up :thumb:

^^Exactly if you do any sort of cam upgrade opt for upgraded valve springs. It wouldn't really be worth it to spend all that money on mods and building to motor only to have a valve float and smash into an unsuspecting piston.

stock springs can rev 272s to 8500rpms all day. Not saying no ones floated a valve from doing that, but there is absolutely no reason in really revving that setup past 7500rpms ever. So stock valvetrain wether u get 272s or 101-100's/fp1's will be more than sufficient.

One thing is your gonna have a hell of a time tuning that thing with an SAFC and 9:1 compression. With that high of comprsseion you will need to pull timing on pump gas, and since an SAFC usally ends up giving you more timing advance due to it trickng the ECU into seeing less air your gonna have trouble. You should really look into DSMlink it has great timing control or obviously a full standalone. Take it from a guy that runs 9:1 on pump gas.
