buddy's car slower than heck in quartermile whats up..?

Helping guy with 91 talon awd turbo.
He added a 3inch catback and downpipe no cat .I sold him COP and supra tt pump and sx afpr.We put in new plugs BR yes not BPR7es..he bought them not sure if the BR are ok to use instead of BPR7es?
Car has bad idle surge but otherwise runs smooth,Clutch seems very good,Car pulls clean to redline.
We timed it today with my track tested timer and it ran from 15.9 to 17.1 at like 84mph!!
60fts were from like 2.17 to 2.8!
He bogged it most times ,was launching around 4000. He also sometimes shortshifted not sure where he should be shifting it around 6000 maybe? Were is rev limiter..he wasn't hitting that though.
Anyway he gets boost on the gauge of like 15 to even 20 creeping due to the 3inch downpipe and catback . On the quarter runs he was seeing around 15 or so.
Now after we got back we figured one reason car is so slow is he put in Greddy RS vented it not recirced it..I warned him but he did anyway .Now he left that tube to the intake pipe open !! We blocked it off but didn't retest car think its faster now.So would that big open blow off tube cause the car to be like two full seconds.
Also would venting the greddy cause the car to be two seconds slower?
We are going to change out fuel filter..we did the supra tt an sx reg and the sx is set right on at stock 38psi line off.
We are seeing good boost at the gauge taken off p port.so figured no boost leak.
I have never checked his engine vacuum yet. He blows no black or white smoke and his car seems to run smooth and pretty strong.I would have thought it was a low 14 high 13 second car at 17psi for sure.Appreciate any ideas guys.
 
well to be honest it just sounds like your friend flat out cant drive 2.1-2.8 60ft? That could be a huge problem, but yes venting your bov will cause you to run very rich and bog the car between shifts! What turbo does he have and any injector upgrades done yet?
 
He kept boggin it and letting the clutch out too fast or not giving it enough gas mabye but think was just launching too low and rpm like 3500..sounds like closer to 5000 might be the answer.It did seem doggy between shifts and he did have that blow off tube to the intake pipe wide open hanging there.
He has a 14 b.He has COP,new BR7es.yes I told him to get BPR7es and he bought BR7es not sure if that hurts anything? He has supra tt pump and sx afpr dialed in to 38 line off. Think that is proper 1g spec?
I think if its not the open blowoff tube to intake and the venting its got to be fuel filter or crazy knock retard or something.I had terrible knock retard in my 92 and finally got rid of it with ecu chip.
But his car seems pretty quick when going part throttle but wot she is a big pooch!
We didnt try a new run after blocking up the blow off to intake tube.Also his factory boost solenoid is still in place hooked up to the gate.He didn't install his mbc as he was creeping so bad that figured he didn't need it.
Would the factory solenoid still hooked up be pulling out all his timing or something?
He has dsm scanmaster coming shortly. We will be looking at everything and also he is getting maft next mod.
 
before doing anymore runs recirc the bov and get a logger. the open intake tube is letting unmetered air into the engine causing a lean condition. what is the point of disconnecting the bov return tube?
 
Not to be an ass or anything, but a 2.1 60ft for an AWD sucks. That seems like what my 60ft for my FWD was when it was stock. Shifting a 6000rpms is low, I take mine to 7000rpms. Who knows maybe its not him and maybe its the car. Try to find boost leaks.
 
You are not being an ass!! 2.1 60ft is weak for an awd.We found a few problems ,He put on non recirced blow off and had the blow off tube hanging open to the intake.We capped that off.That helped some.He has recirc kit on the way for his Greddy RS.
Also he changed out fuel filter and that helped 1000% .Also interesting.I put in a supra tt pump in his car and it was very noisy in his but quiet when had same pump in mine.Pump had maybe 2000 miles on it.
He changed out fuel filter and now pump is quiet and his top end is back to being very strong! Still have to check his car for boost leaks. He can hit 17plus psi though pretty easily right now..fact likley he could creep to twenty psi.
He put on that no cat 3 inch downpipe and catback and that is the reason it creeps so bad.We will have to port up his wastegate hole when check his exhuast studs.

We will also scan his car shortly.
 
I keep seeing a big problem that no one has addressed yet. Boost creep. If you are runnign to much boost it is NOT going to make your car faster. If you had a logger, I have an AFC w/bezel, logger, and chip for sale for a 1G, then you would be able to see that it is pulling timming. You are running to much boost and that car is detonating and pulling timming. Get the car to run correctly then beat on it. We don't need anymore threads about how my car bewl up and DSm are crap and unreliable.
