BSE: Do shaft bearings need to be replaced?

In one part of the vfaq article Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit Install towards the end it says that

"...The rear balance shaft bearing is shown circled here. This bearing can be left alone. The front shaft bearings, however, need to be removed and replaced with the blockoff bearings included in the kit. These blockoff bearings are necessary because the stock bearings have oiling holes for the balance shaft, and if you don't block them off, you will lose oil pressure."

but then in the beginning of the article it shows in the pictures of the replacement parts including these "blockoff" bearings I'd assume, holes in the bearings, which doesn't make sense because I thought the whole point of "block"ing off was to eliminate this holes right? And below the pictures it says,

"Note that you don't have to buy new bearings if you knock the old ones out carefully enough and reuse them." ????

So now I'm really confused. So we're going to reuse these old bearings with holes that we we're supposed to be trying to eliminate?

Anyone out there know what it is here that is confusing me? Thanks in advance.

yes. well the block has holes in it that line up with the hole in the bearing. if you knock it out careful enough you can just rotate the bearing 180* and the holes will no longer line up. hence you block the oil port. once you look in the block you`ll see what im talking about. just make sure you DONT have the holes lined up and you will be golden. good luck

You can install the bearing in any position as long as the bearing hole and block oil port do not line up when doing a bse. I installed my bearings, where the hole is pointed upwards (away from the oil port hole on the block).

You can resue the old bearing as long as it isn't damaged on removal. Just knock it out, turn the 180* so the hole doesn't line up with the oil port, and reinstall. Or just replace it with the new bearing in the kit.

Is it possible that the bearings will rotate on their own at some point? How come in the article it says "These blockoff bearings are necessary because the stock bearings have oiling holes for the balance shaft, and if you don't block them off, you will lose oil pressure" as if these "blockoff" bearings DON'T have holes? Shouldn't this be the case? Anyone ever get replacement bearings without holes? Thanks for your replies

On there own they cant move once its in,its there, they will need to be pressed out to move.

Hmm, okay, I guess I was under the impression the bearing itself would rotate but I guess it's just there to be a harder surface than the end of the shaft to protect the softer metal of the block uh? I've only worked with bearings in my skateboard as a kid heh. I'm moving up now. Thanks!

mabe 20hp.its more of a get rid of problem befor it starts thing..u are doing pully tentioner and belt also?.and didnt touch the back bearing at all..the front i just left the hole shaft in place.( i did mine with motor in car)

Oh I know, I was just kidding. I didn't even think 20hp. Id happy to gain 10. Haven't done it yet but glad 2 hear someone's done it with motor in place. I'll update as I get going on it. Thanks 4 input
