BS belt install

Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting my balance shaft on. Any recommendations? I can't get it around the the crank sprocket's backing plate.

Take the plate off. Or eliminate the shafts all together. Do you have the timing belt hydrolic tensioner off?

Temporarily remove the crank position sensor to get the belt on.

I have the timing belt, and all its components off. I don't see a way to take the plate off.

You have to take the crank sprocket off with a 1/2 drive ratched or impact works best.

Is that the only way? I don't have access to an impact wrench. If I do try to break it loose with the 1/2" drive, it just rotates.

I think I'm just going to run no BS belt, and get to eliminating it later.

This is not needed for a 7 bolt, it's only true for a 6 bolt. You should be able slip the belt in and out around the back plate just by "loosening the the tensioner pulley" which I suspect Glliw forgot to do. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G.htm

With the crank position sensor off you can slip (and twist) the belt behind the backing plate (called sensing blade) while rotating the crank a little each way. I've done it many times. You don't need to take off the plate.

Wait...so your saying I don't have to take it off but I do?

Turn the crank far enough so the belt can clear the sensing blade part that sticks out. Then pull the belt out enough while doing the same thing by turning crank the other way (ie. keep belt against sensing blade part that doesn't stick out while you rotate crank so belt can make it around and off blade). Removing the CPS helps give enough clearance to get the belt out from behind the plate.

Yeah you don't have to but with the condition of your timing cover I would and clean it off. I see you already have oil and stuff on the belt. You don't want that thing dryrotting and breaking and getting wrapped up in your timing belt. I've seen it too many times where an oil cover BSB is the cause of a jumped motor.
