My car started squeaking pretty bad. I looked at the alternator and realized that it was twisted. The side with the pulley was being pulled toward the engine. I tried to tighten the bolt on the alternator tensioning bracket when I realized the bolt was completely loose. I removed the water pump pulley and pulled out the bolt to find that it was broken off. The bolt is still about 2 inches long before the break.

1. Is the hole threaded or was there a nut on the other end? I can't see where the hole goes.

2. Is the threaded part in the water pump or the block? (can I removed the water pump to fix it?)

Any advise on fixing this appreciated! I am at college (3 hours away from where my tools are). I have a socket set and a few basic tools but thats it.

Thanks for the help!

What bolt are we talking about? There are three on the alternator. You have the adjustment bolt that is about 4" long and points towards the drivers seat. Then you have the adjustment stop bolt that is on the top of the alternator, faces the passinger side fender panel. This one screws into a small metal block, that is almost shaped like a house. The third one is under the alternator and is the piviot point. The bolt is square on the side closest to the drivers side fender panel and has a nut on the other side.
