Hey guts, i just broke two of my fuel rail bolts to the head. Whats the bolt size and pattern. I know it has to be m??x1.25, but "m" what, and how long. Another thing what will be the best thing to get the bolt out of my head, both are broken flush against the head. Could a drill out do the job, or something simple like a easy out?

Try an easy out but it wont be easy, and youll have to tap it for a new size bolt.

Why would i have to tap it for a new size bolt? or are u saying just in case i cant get it out, i meant to mention the car is my dd so the engine is still in the car.

I think i drilled too far:pray:hope not. ive seen oil on my bit

OP, you did the exact same thing I did! I have no words of encouragement because it's just one of my hundreds of problems with my car that hasn't run for over a year. I've been told a few things, like using a bolt extractor (easy out) or spot welding a bit to it to turn. To use the 'easy out' you have to be really precise and cut directly center, at the perfect angle, otherwise you're going to make trouble for yourself. Did you measure the length of one of the bolts to get an idea of how deep to drill? Are you using any cutting fluid? I'm probably going to end up just tapping the inside of the hole that remains, and put in a wider bolt. Let me know what you do though, I'm really interested in how to fix this

Totally just realized that this was posted last month; would still like to hear how you resolve this!

I've had this happen.. twice. One of the nifty little things I found on the DSM when I got it a few years ago.
Oh, and snapped off water pump bolts. And a snapped off carrier bearing axle bolts. I actually wonder if the guy used an impact on everything..
I'm a pro at getting broken bolts out now LOL.

Be careful on those bolts in the head. You'll tear into soft aluminum if you misdrill.

Go get some good bits. I think I used some titanium/nitride ones for this. Start small. I mean small. Get a tiny pilot hole. Work your way up til you're about a 1/3 diameter of the bolt. (2 or 3 sized bits should be fine.) Don't drill deep.. maybe about 1/2"-2/3". I like to use a high torque drill to get the ez out started until it catches good..(drill slow so you can give it a chance to grab) then switch from the drill to a t-handle and hand torque it out. If you cant get the ez out to bite try switching to a square style one and feel free to give it some light tapping with a hammer. Just make sure you hit it head on and at the same angle as the bolt is to the head.

Goodluck!

Sidenote: as for bolt sizes.. columbus dsm. nuff' said :)
