I have seen a lot of people saying how they broke their driver side door handles on many different websites. About a month ago, I got my car washed and the door froze overnight. Since then, I can no longer open up my driver side door from the outside. Is this the infamous problem?

No the infamous probllem is when the handle actually breaks. you can pull the handle and nothing hapens. I've been dealing with this for about 3 months now due to lack of funds for a new handle. Isnt it fun going through the pass door?

If your door wont open and the handle isnt broken I would look at the plastic clip on the handle in the door that releases the lock it probably broke and wont let the door open now it is at the top of the rod from the handle to the lock.it probably froze and broke cause cold makes things brittle.

evipeclipse - Dont buy another handle, buy the repair kit for the handles. It reinforces the handles with metal and makes them stronger than new. I have done this to both off my handles after they broke and they work fine after months of use. The hardest part is lining the handle back up after its broken but its super strong. Search in the parts review sections, thats where I found it.

The handle piece has two plastic hinges. One of those actuates the rod that goes to the door latch. It is possible to break the one that actuates the door latch and not break the other so the handle stays attached to the car.

Does the handle feel wobbly like one hinge might be broke?

Here are some pics to show you how to take the handle out and what to look for inside. You may just have ice in the door latch too. Can you get the car in a warm place for a few hours or pour lots of hot water on it to see if it will re-melt?

2G door handle tips

Yea it does suck going through the passenger door and opening it from the inside. The handle feels secure and normal. The car has been heated to melt and ice inside it so i don't think that would be the problem. As soon as i get a semi-warm day or i can utilize a friends garage I will pull out the door panel and follow the steps in azdave's post. Thanks guys!
