brand new engine questions

so i built a brand new shortblock with big rods, stock pistons, new head and valvetrain, HKS cams, removed balance shafts in a N/T engine block.

It has a new 50 trim fed from the filter housing, new HKS cams, compression is 160psi after 50 miles of break in and I haven't changed the oil yet.

My motor smokes a good amount. I haven't boosted, but when I drive it smokes thru the city, especially rolling from an idle.

Is this normal for a new motor? Car runs great, just smokes. Do I just need to drive it more to seal the pistons rings? I didn't find any oil in my intake pipes.

And one more thing, it seems that I have TONS of oil pressure. Almost like I have too much. The needle is almost at H on the factory gauge at higher rpms and seems to stay there except at idle. At idle, it drops to normal.

Honestly it shouldn't be smoking that much. A new motor doesn't usually smoke at all sometimes even when you first start them up there is no smoke and not at all during a drive I have seen many times. If your smoking and your oil pressure is sky high then I think you have a problem.

The problem is you have no balance shafts which increases oil pressure and you have no oil squirters which also increases oil pressure. Did you shim the oil pump to lower the pressure?

No I didn't. Explain "shimming the oil pump" to me.

i agree with the oil pressure problem, i would port the relief valve a little.

what exactly does that mean?

do a quick search you'll find a thread with pics and plenty of other info. there is a hole that bypasses oil with a spring loaded valve. you can port the hole a little and it will flow more, because sometimes it just doesnt flow enough and oil pressure keeps rising.
