Brakes lock up easily

Hi all,

My car does not have ABS, and everytime I have to push the brakes a little bit harder than usual they lock up and I slip. I have the feelings it's either all wheels standing still or only the ones in the front because the car doesn't brake out. There are braking fluid leaks. Could it be the EBD? How can I test this?

There are braking fluid leaks.

Here's big problem number one. A leak in a closed hydraulic system is a bad, bad thing. First order of business is to fix the leaks.

The fluid leaks are the problem. When you apply the brakes, equal pressure is applied to each caliper. The leaking line decreases the amount of pressure to that wheel. The wheel that isn't leaking stops first. The other wheels are still rolling.

So what could it be than? The brake force divider?

Bad prop valve, possibly. More than likely it would be a bad caliper, is it always on one wheel? I.E. Pulling one direction or the other when braking gets erratic?

Dumb question but it has to be ruled out: how are your tires?

No, I think it are both front wheels. The car is not pulling to any side, but I get the feeling I'm not able to steer it in any other direction. That's why I think both front wheels lock up, If it were the wheels in the back I think the car would break out in a spin or slip.

The tires are good, from a quality brand. They are 17" and wider than the stock wheels, so I already should have improved my friction with the road..
But my winter tires are on the original 15" rims and I experience the same with those on the car.
