Alright. I am going to be doing a lot today. And I am sure I will be working into the night. I am going to replace my front pads with Portfield R4-S racing brake pads, and I also am going to flush my brake system with new fluid because: 1) It is low. 2) It is probably old fluid. 3) I just want to get it all done so i can forget about it for a while.

(I also have a Chilton Manual to tell me where i need to bleed from and how to replace the pads)

Questions:

1) How much brake fluid will I need to flush the whole system with my new fluid? (I have 2 bottles of Motul RBF 600 DOT 4 fluid as you can see from the picture. Each bottle is 500ML/1.05 US pints) Is that enough for it?

2) I am a bit confused with how I need to bleed my brakes. I know there is a certain order in which I need to do it but I have read 2 different ways. (Right rear, left rear, right front, right front) and also the whole diagonal way. I have ABS so I don't know what to do.

3) As you can see from the picture, I only have those 3 things currently. My current pads are Hawk HP+ pads and they make dust like crazy. This is the first time i am going to be taking off the wheel. Should I use just use any old brake clean to clean my rotors? What else can/should i clean with it in the brake system?

4) What other materials should I go buy that are available for use today purposes? (No shipping)

5) I need a really good list of things to do when bedding in the pads. I can't find anywhere that says how to bed these pads in properly for the life of me. The box did not come with instructions on how to do so and i cant find anything on Portfield's web page. Someone...help...please...

This is all happening because I was having someone help me, said they would too, but now they have gone missing on me...I am to say the least, miffed.

Quick responses will be GREATLY appreciated seeing as it is 3:00PM now and sunset is around 6:30ish in California and I need to use my car tomorrow. I don't have anyone else's to borrow either.

Yes, that will be enough. I believe I used between 1 and 2 bottles (same stuff) for my brake system. I did a complete bleed with cheapo Walmart fluid to get all the old, dirty stuff out, then another bleed with the Motul fluid so I had the good stuff in there.

I just did this today and followed the Chilton. It says rear passenger's side, front driver's side, rear driver's side, front passenger's side. I don't know if there's any difference between ABS and non-ABS (I don't have ABS).

I would just use break cleaner on the rotors. Take a towel and just wipe them down.

Also, when you bleed the system, get a baster and take as much fluid out of the master cylinder as you can and wipe it down very well to get all the gunk out of it. Then start the bleeding process.

Not sure what you mean by this.

When I did my brake upgrades, I followed this method - http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm. And then I just didn't get on them hard for about 400 miles or so (non-highway).

Good luck with the install! You'll be loving it once you're done! :thumb:

You are greatly appreciated. :D. I did the pads today (all I had time for). And in doing this, this also fixed my low fluid levels. My pads were LOW. I'll post pics up of them tomorrow. Word to the wise, never buy Hawk anything. They dust like mad and they are shitty quality. (You will see this when I post the pics). I am still planning on flushing my system though because it has been close to 2 years since it has been in there. (I knew the previous owner quite well. He tracked it a little less then 2 years ago so I know he did the change then). Turkey baster idea is a good one. I have a spare one that I can use so I'm good on that. Didn't think about wiping the reservoir out though. Another Good idea.

#4 was a question about what other parts or random objects I would need to flush my system that I wouldn't need to order. You know, stuff I could pick up at a local parts store or something like that. But I found out what I would need. Hoping to pick up a little quick bleeder like the one in the link soon or at least order it.

And that link you posted was awesome. I am doing that tonight on a little semi freeway near me so no one is on it to hit me and get in my way. And then I will granny it for a while.

snowborder714, Thanks for your help.

haha, yeah. I knew it would react all slow. So I was braking really slow, and it didn't even feel like the car was wanting to stop. It was a weird feeling.

I still have to take a picture of my old Hawks so I can show you the many pieces they are in. (YEAH FLIPPIN' PIECES!!!) I'll get that done sometime soon so you all can see them.
