Im talking about doing this from a stop, so maybe its called brake torquing...

How bad is this for the stock transmission? How much can it handle? (RPMS) Is this a bad thing to keep doing to your auto transmission or is just as "bad" as someone launching in a 5spd?

If its a 5spd, please tell me how you're going to hold the clutch in, hold the brake, hold the gas, take your foot off the clutch, hold the brake while standing still without killing it then we might be able to get some where....

If its an auto, its perfectly fine. of course its going to cause a little more stress on the tranny but you're not going to see a whole lot of torque load from an auto tranny during a brake boost from a dig...

As for brake boosting in general its great adn I love it. It really helps with roll races or spooling bigger turbo's..

And as for as "launching" an awd car, no matter what people say you're damaging something each time you do it. The proper way to launch a car is riding the clutch out at a fast rate. Why? Because it doesn't give the initial full torque load on all of the moving parts. What is this going to do? Its going to save your tranny from being put in an extreme bind from lack of ability to spin the tires to free up some of the stress. Also with "dumping" the clutch you're going to snap your axles, rip the rear end out, or drop your driveshaft. Also while "properly launching" by riding the clutch out you're goign to see a drastic drop in your overall times becuase you're going to be able to hook more properly, yes its going to wear your clutch out faster but theres always a trade off no matter what.

DsmLink makes a great feature called antilag... I love it :)

the converter would be more than likely to go first.... You should be fine for a long time unless you're running a T89748z84ninertwenty4 trim with nitrous off the line. :)

Your torque converter will allow you to sit at the line and "brake boost". The stock TC will engage at a much lower rpm than a rebuilt or billet TC. The two important parts are your torque converter and your brakes to allow you to sit at the line and build boost.

I know next to nothing about automatics, but I know if you plan on loading up the torque converter you're going to need to keep the fluid as cool as possible. I think you should consider an upgraded tranny fluid cooler.

True statement. But if he just sits at the line for merely a few seconds and goes or brake boosts from a roll for a short period of time, he should be fine. But I would recommend a cooler as well.

I don't own a DSM, but I know someone that was showing me some of the options they could do with their DsmLink for their 2G Eclipse. He was also using antilag. He tried to explain how it worked but I can't remember exactly what it did? Is it kinda like a 2-step rev limiter?

I think antilag adds timing or something between gears to keep the spool up? I read about it but cant remember. The stutter box feature is awesome, but wouldnt know how that would work on a auto. Isnt the auto trannys pretty tough. Ive heard of some crazy 1/4 mile times on stock auto's. I know the starquest auto's are pretty tough.

from what he said it is used for launching from a standstill and to have boost off the line. To me sounds just like a 2-step rev limiter.

Anti-lag can be a great thing but it's extremely hard on the turbo's.
Basically it involves retarding timing so far to cause the ehxuast valve to open during the power cycle, which makes the exhaust gases spin past the turbine to spool it up = pop pop boom *flame* and insane boost off the line.:D

wow, that's really cool. He did mention that it was litteratly pushing flames through the turbo, but I thought that was a figure of speech. Is this done with some sort of Variable Valve Timing that comes on the car stock. I used to own an N/A Eclipse a LONG time ago, and I can't remember if they came with some kind of Variable Valve timing..... actually I think I just thought of it, is it call MI-VEC (Mitsubushi Valve Electronically Controlled???)

It's done via the ecu retarding ignition timing. The more you retard timing, the more boost you build. No DSM came with any sort of VTEC. That's honda shit. The mid/late 90's mirages came with MI-VEC. New EVO has it as well.

i launch my car at 18psi from brake boosting and i havent had any problems with smoking the trans or breaking other parts, while it does seem to make the trans temp jump up a little bit maybe 20 degrees if that. but i sure like doin it haha

Now did I say anything about VTEC? Don't assume I know nothing about cars. Timing can be ignition timing or valve timing, and I thought this was controlled through valve timing. I did not know that MI-VEC is in the newer models, but not the older DSM's, which is perfectly legit since I signed up for this forum like 3 days ago.

All gayness aside and flaming aside, even though its bad on the turbo..... You ALL know that antilag sounds badass ;)
