brake booster test

now I know there are brake booster threads on here but I havent seen one where someone tested it....is it possible?

I'm not talking about the stock line with the checkvalve in it.....but the brake booster itself...can we somehow test that?


also what is the best option as far as the line goes...are you guys having problems with your stock line with check valve or does anyone know how much pressure the stock check valve can hold?

i don't think doing a BLT on your brake booster is the best idea.. also i know that some have placed additional check valves in line to help with the problem.

There is a check valve in the line between the IM and booster, that prevents it from being pressurized while under boost. The valve is hidden inside the factory hose.

Since the booster works under vacuum, the best way to check it for leakage is to hook up a vac pump (like a MightyVac) to the nipple on it and see if it leaks. There really isn't a whole lot more to the booster, and your master cylinder is more likely to fail if there is a problem in that area.

if you try to brake very sudden while after just being in boost then you will have no help from the booster due to no vacuum, also iirc the booster wont take much abuse for too long and will leak

so I'm doing a rebuild and I want to make sure the brake booster is okay so does anyone know the part number for the line with the check valve in it?

................mine has been weird since I got it.. I didn't know a thing about a check valve......-.- And when I press my brake in, I hear air from my BB...God... Dammit. My brake booster is toast...

So Install a Check Valve that allows vaccum from the BB, but no boost to the BB... and that will eliminate a big problem with my vaccum and possibly my boost leak?

OP - Not sure on the P/N off the top of my head, but there were several threads on this a few months ago with P/N's. I also posted the way I made my own, using a US Plastics check valve (which is still working great BTW):
