Ask Me, Virginia
Just pulled the plugs to do a compression test and noticed the 6's in there. Previous owner only ran 16 psi on it so it makes sense. Do I need to run 7's? I would seriously think that it is time to do so. Please take a look at my mods in profile and let me know what you think. Not saying my car is anything special, but my goal is 22 psi on pump.

Thanks for your time.

going by your mods i would say that most would be running 7's but if your not having any issues with the 6's i would leave them in because you will get a more complete burn at lower loads.
Remember you always want to run the hottest plug possible and the main reason you would go to a colder plug is because the current plug is getting to hot.

i was running a 16g and didn't have to switch to 7's until i turned the boost above 20psi

Good info! How would I determine that the current plug is getting too hot? Would it come in the form of knock? Also what would the advantage be of more complete combustion at lower loads? The car is not my DD, so I really don't care if it doesn't run well at lower loads (or part throttle situations if thta is what you are getting at).

If you have time, could you please expand?

Thanks

What I say is, it never hurts to run 7's when you have mods, even the slightest. They always worked great for me even when only having a exhaust/intake/mbc. 7's and gap at .28 should do the trick.

This is what I am thinking. Could I go with a slightly wider gap or would the spark tend to get blown out at higher boost levels e.g. 22 psi etc.

Thanks!

Not sure as it has been a long time since I don't run higher gap, but I remember .28 doing the job just right for me.

When my plugs were getting too hot i started getting a misfire on 2 cyls that were paired together with the same coil so it would be like a pattern when it would misfire and it would fire one then miss the other consistantly until i got out of boost.

The main advantage in your car would be less likely to foul the plugs apon start-up in cold weather and would be less likely to let carbon deposits form if you were to start your car for a short period of time then shut if off multiple times, which track cars often see getting shuffled around onto trailers and around the garage.

this is usually dependent on the car and it can't hurt to go out and try it. just make sure you get it as hot as you ever would just to make sure you don't run into issues when your really pushing it.

I believe it's the ngk web site that has good information regarding spark plug temp range. Check it out

Thanks everyone....I am weighing in what you said and will conclude soon.
