BOV questions

Hey guys. I have an SSQ bov on my 2g gsx. I dont like the "choo choo choo choo" noise it makes, i wanted more of a single air rush. I know these BOV's are popular, and it works great, and doesnt leak from what i can tell, but i want to have one nice big PSSHHH! Hehe, what BOV might i pick up/trade for to get this? I have researched a little, but couldnt find any solid info.

Can you post a video of it? I have the Turbo XS RFL Blow Off Valve and might be interested in trading if u can post a video so i can hear it. Mine makes one loud PSHHHH and is really loud. I would post a video but my motor is in pieces . Rebuilding it.

Get a 1g BOV they are proven to be effective and dont leak and are cheap

Yea its really loud . The RFL is the loudest bov on the market. You know what rfl stands for? Anyways yea try a 1g bov their cheap too.

you can try the greddy type RS. I used to have it on my 2g gst. I prefer a type S its more of a whistle. Go on you tube and type in "Greddy type RS" or whatever BOV your interested in. That will give you an idea.

is yours recirculated. if so then that sounds like might be normal my buddys gst did that but just to be shure. make shure its not flutter due to spring to tight but i dont know anything about hks bov. i have greddy type s, and a crushed 1g bov

Like dsm kid4 said above, the Greddy type RS sounds like something you would be interested in based on your description, I know a few people around my area running around with them, they sound great and they definitely turn some heads here and there.

My atmospherically dumped 1g crushed bov is real loud, and is one single wooosh. Also held/is holding 24psi.

Those pieces of trash are mounted to their base with three set screws () and are sprung lighter than any valve on the market to make 5psi sound like 30psi when they open.


O.P. - A 1G BOV (or Evo 9 BOV, depending on the base flange you need) is exactly what you're looking for. You can't beat the price or the performance.

my greddy type S is a pos its very leaky no wonder they stoped making it. i have to have the spring tigther than it should be so it wont leak so i have some nasty flutter at 8psi or under but my crushed 1g bov on my gsx makes a very sexy sound when vented

As far as BOV's that serve their function are concerned (to those who care more about the performance of the valve than the sound), the RFL is at the bottom of the list....right above the stock 2G BOV.

speaking of flange wheres a good place to get a type rs flange for cheap. I just got a greddy rs for free.

correct, and for as cheap as possibile. im trying to figure out if my car is acting weird because my stock bov is leaking so bad

I have tried these bov's:

1.) Blitz DD
2.) HKS SSQV
3.) HKS Racing Type II (Single Valve) (FYI: you need hi-boost to run this mofo---just like those supras w/ single turbo conversions)
4.) SARD R2D2 (IMHO is by far the best sounding if you're going for sound)
5.) A'pexi twin chamber (so-so)
6.) TurboXS RFL
7.) Sheepdog Prof (RARE---like I mean rare but if you want a similar design go for APS twin vent---recirculate one side and vent the other, very effective especially if you're running stock MAF)
8.) Greddy Type-S
9.) Greddy Type-R (Like the HKS type II, you need hi-boost)
10.) Tial BOV
11.) Turbonetics Raptor/Godzilla
12.) 1G bov (tapped for 2nd port becoming a pop-off valve---my 2nd best sounding bov IMHO)

Its just really a matter of preference, but I've grown weary of the sound of BOV's venting to atmosphere, I'm just going sleeper now and I just love the hissing sound of a spooling turbo w/ an open air intake w/ hardpipe. Sooner or later, it gets tiresome.

What are your symptoms?

Keep in mind that pretty much any BOV is an upgrade from the stock 2G valve, with only the RFL as an exception. If you got the valve for free, a $20 adapter plate could be your knight in shining armor.

well the car has been sputtering ( i guess you could call it that) at WOT only while under boost. so I installed a 14b when i realized my t25 had alot of shaft play, and that fixed it for like 1 day. now its having the same problem. so im thinking boost leak. I know my stock bov is on its last legs, you can see the sealent coming out the side. Ill try and post a video tomorrow so you can see what im talking about.

You Have the same Bov I do Or Bpv to be correct. Here's a video I think of the type of sound his make's I honestly Like the sound of my Bov It's much louder when going down the road because of course it will be under load. But you get the point and what it sound's like. But it sound's much more BA when in between shift's. And just anothering thing I don't have my 4.5" "FART CAN" as some call it tip/resonator on so it sound's like crap at idle kinda sound's like a tractor. But any way's here's my Bov is this the sound your talking about your's make's?

I have the HKS SSQV. MainerDSM, yes thats the sound i have. and it is MUCH lounder under load. Thats it exactly though. Boomdeeze, if thats the one your after, im interested in trading. Can i see a pic of yours? Link to a pic of mine is here
