Bought a new Palm/logger cable, won't work!!

I bought a new color Palm M-130 and a logger cable with a fitting that connects directly to the newer palm.

The prob is I can not get the palm and my laptop to connect together, after I click the Hotsink button on the cradle , after a minute or so the palm screen says the connection failed to initialize or somthing like that. I have installed the softwear 5 times now, I even installed it from Palms download and the disk softwear.. Any ideas at all PLEASE...

Change the port that it is hotsyncing to.

Yep there's a choice for USB or Serial, pick the right one.

I swapped the USB ports around and it still won't connect, my laptop says it detects new hardwear, so it knows its there. I have spent hours on this, messing with every thing from A-Z.

I have never had any problems downloading other softwear before this, my laptop is a 2003 AMD Compaq with XP Pro, and my palm is a new M130 w/cradle.

This sucks, i do not know what to do.

1) You installed the Palm Desktop software on your laptop correct?

2) In the hotsync options on your laptop, you choose USB connection?

3) The cradle and palm are connected well? not loose or anything

4) On your palm, under connection, cradle/cable is selected and not null modem phone line?

That's all I can think of right now...

Make sure you have the little Hotsync icon in the task bar...

Yes, I have the Hotsink task bar at the bottom of the screen, and when I point on it ,it says (last Hot Sync <none>).

And yes 98spydert, to all 4 things you suggested. I do not know what to do.

ANY IDEAS AT ALL,,PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
