Hey Guys, What's Up?
I Recently Bought a 1997 GSX with 139,000 on the stock motor. Paid $5,500. Only thing it had done to it when i bought it was some crappy cat-back. I've since fixed that, got a 2.5" cat back, put an Injen Intake, Greddy Type S, K&N Filter, Greddy TT and an SAFC in it. I'm so pumped to have one, I've wanted one for as long as i can remember and i'm trying my best to take care of it. As far as i know the maitenence was kept up with, oil changes, timing belt all that regular stuff... The mileage is up to about 141,000 now and I've done two oil changes and the lifters are still clicking like mad... i least i HOPE it's the lifters:|(I'm scared to death of crankwalk) I've tried to Automatic transmission fluid trick... I've tried prolong... Short of buying all new lifters any ideas to fix it?

Thanks Guys, this community has been mad helpful so far...hope it continues:thumb:

You can clean your lifters too. I'm doing that right now. It's fairly easy. I hope it stops ticking after I reinstall them:D

Thanks...
I know all hydraulic lifter cars tick but i'd hopefully like to fix it as much as possible because it just sound unhealthy sometimes at idle. and there is one particular lifter (the on close to or right under the "O" in DOHC on the valve cover that is about 150X louder than the rest and the metal on metal sound is just blood curdling when you rev it (after it's already warm of course)

What worked on mine was using a can of Restore with every oil change. I know "miracle" products like Restore aren't supposed to work, but this one does and makes a noticeable difference in lifter noise. I use a semi-synthetic 10W-30 as well.

As an FYI, Lucas Oil Treatment and everything else out there did nothing for me while Restore worked in minutes.

Good luck and congrats on your new ride!

One way like someone mentioned is to throw the 3rd Gen lifters in. The other way is an additive. the reason why they click is because after you just your car off... the oil pressure obviously drops and the oil drops into the oil pan. Well.. .when you start your car back up, the lifters need time to be saturated... thats why sometimes they go away. What I would recommend is Lucas Oil Stablizer... works like a charm. Once you toss that bad boy in, a smile will come right on :D You can grab it at any Auto parts place's like Gayzone and Advance retard parts.... (aka Autozone and Advance auto parts)

Let us know if this helped

My lifters ticked like crazy when I first picked up my car.
I needed a T-Belt replacement, so before I tore her down, I dumped in a can of CRC Motor Flush.
Now with every oil change around 2k miles, I use 1g Mitsu oil filters, Lucas Oil Stabilizer for synthetic oil (but it can be used with regular oil too), Mobil 1 10w-30 non-syn ust recently, I noticed a slight lifter tick when I first start my car in the early morning. I never hear after she's warmed up, and I flushed her almost 40k miles ago.
