I am planning on putting a turbo into my 1995 Talon ESI. I understand, and have done my research. But what I would like to know, is exactly what is considered to be a bottom end build-up? I want to do both things at once so that I do not have to mess with it later. Also, how much should I expect to pay? Any sites, or personal help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I think bottom end includes rods, pistons and everything that goes along with them. Slowboyracing.com has pretty good prices, check the parts catalog here though, and it will list a bunch of other online suppliers. As far as price goes, it really depends on how much you want to 'build' the bottom end. Just a thought though, why not consider buying a turbo motor instead and doing the swap? then you wouldnt have to deal with high compression and all.
 
What would be the better kit to go with, the long rod or the regular? What are some of the biggest differences between the two?
 
the long rod from howell is supposed to be a 2.2L which would give you more torque and i think more power as well. it will take some custom fabrications to get it in right. the regular bottom end rebuild is just a 2.0L bebuild so everything will drop right in. it is 1000-1100 from howell :dsm:

Howell does offer a long rod kit. I am not too familiar with it to be honest. Someone on 2gnt.com just completed a rebuild doing it.

I have the 2.2L stroker motor, and its not the rods that make mine the stroker. Howell actually sends out the crankshaft to have it modified for a longer stroke. No modification necessary with this setup. The stroker bottom-end is about $2600 without a core charge.
 
Longer rods aren't going to give you more displacement. It will still be 2.0. If you want 2.2 you should opt for the stroker kit.

Right now the long rod engine is the same price as standard rods. Might as well go for the long rod setup. There are a few reviews on 2gnt and people like the added torque.
 
The long rod kit just gives you more torque then the regular rods will give you, it will still be a 2.0 though. if you want a 2.2 you will have to get a stroker motor(which i should be getting this summer :thumb:
