I have a tial 38MM with the high pressure spring (20psi) with a MBC can i boost lower than this for engine break in?

SHITTT.... im either guna look for another spring... or really keep an eye on my foot.... cause i dont wanna break my engine in at 20 psi!

You could take the spring out. I would be the same as removing the actuator arm off of the flapper on an internal gated turbo. You may still build up to 5psi which would be fine and good.

It won't exactly hurt the engine to break it in at 20psi as there are people who break new motors in 1/4 mile at a time down the drag strip.

just tune an take it down the road and do about 10 to 12 35 to 55 or 60 mph pulls
back to back to seat the rings. If something is wrong its gonna happen anyway.

okie doke sounds good.

Ya how do people do it when breaking in a new turbo, and engine, and tuning all at the same time?

Because should you do your pulls right when the engine is started? but what if your tune would be totally off and its unbeleivably lean? Just something thats always been in my mind... im not to worried about it ive just thought about it.

just keep an eye on your a/f gauge. kinda tune the car best you can before doing the pulls

IMHO you shouldn't be trying to tune your car on a new engine (ring break in). Stock ECU and stock injectors is what I would recommend unless your ECU already has a solid tune on it for the injectors you would be using. You don't want wash the cylinder walls with gas and not being able to seat your rings.

I second this. I never break in an engine with a brand new tune from scratch.

You can also just keep your foot out of it. You don't HAVE to boost 20 if you just watch your boost gauge.

Ya it scares me i dont wanna eff anything up. I sent my eprom into ecmlink and them doen for my fic 1000cc. other than that there is no tune on it. What are your suggestions? would it even run okay with the stock ecu and injectors along with all my other mods? (wally 255, afpr, HOLSET BIG H1C, Tial 38mm, huge FMIC, 6bolt swap, and most likely a vented BOV.)

Get your other smaller turbo on, stock injectors and stock chip put back in. Run those for the break in and you will be fine. DO NOT VENT your BOV unless you have a GM MAF in blow through mode or are running speed density!

problem 1: dont have smaller turbo anymore
problem 2: dont even have circulating bov anymore because it was the 2g one and it was a POS and i threw it out because before i rebuilt the motor i ran a turbo xs vented. and i was going to use link for speed density so i wouldnt be able to put my stock chip back in.

If i take the spring out and do my pulls like that up to 5 psi... would i be able to tune more safely at the same time as breaking in?

You'll have to take it very easy then as you DO NOT want to tune on a new engine. With all of that extra air coming in that could pose a problem. So you IMO will need to take the spring out to break it in if you cannot find a different turbo to run temporarly.

As for the BOV, pray that it doesn't leak at idle or anything which would cause you to stall out coming to a stop and what not. Each time you let off of the gas in positive pressure you are making the cylinders richer than they should be.

Do you even have an IAT and MAP sensor waiting to be installed or was this for something "sometime down the road"? If you still have your stock MAF then you CAN put your stock chip back in.

Taking WG spring out tomorrow :D
Yes for something down the road, I will be running the stock 2g maf untill i outflow it.
