Hello
I do not think that this has been asked before but i recently bought a 93 GS 5 speed and thinking about turboing it. Now my budget is low since half my 120 dollar goes to gas cigarettes and insurance LOL so its slim. Now my boy from school is selling stock parts off of his built 2g so he offered me the intercooler&piping, turbo, header, downpipe and the o2 housing all for 150 dollars. I do not have money as of now to buy forged anything so how much boost do you guys think that stock non turbo internals on my 4g63 can handle? or you think it will melt them and make my motor eat #%$&?

Your engine will take very little boost if any. Some of those parts will also have to be modified to fit and you will need some type of fuel management and bigger injectors.

The piping, turbo (assuming stock 2g) and downpipe won't fit without major modification as the 1g & 2g are quite different cars.

Wrong. He has the NT version of the 4g63 in his 1g. The manifold, turbo, injectors, basically everything except the exhaust (and anything else that's fitted to the body of the car) is going to fit just fine. Hell, you could even rob the sidemount, just have to either buy piping for a 1g, or fab your own.

Basic differences in the NT vs. T 4g63's were the cams, pistons, and ECU's.

- Pistons: NT=9:1, T=8.5:1
- Cams: Depends on the year really, your particular engine, being a 93, probably has a 7 bolt and cams will be a shorter duration than the Turbo model.
- ECU: You'd just have to steal one out of a Turbo car...junkyard diving!

Now that wasn't the least bit helpful, Rich. :ohdamn:

That or definetly start saving up ;)

LOL true but hey i can only work so much at shoprite being in high school;)
but anyway for some reason my motor is a 6 bolt. might have been swapped before. the car is in great condition but i bet it's been through alot. Hell the previous owner told me it was a gst originally but then has been rebuilt as non-turbo. why would someone do that is beyond any understanding.

I guess I will also need a new headgasket, knock/mas sensors and a SAFC?

This question has been answered many many times. I know the rules say not to "use the search" replies... but seriously USE THE SEARCH FEATURE, anyway here's the short answer for you

8 psi max (assuming your using the 450's, 14b, stock I/C, etc.)

or you can read this thread to get a better, more in depth, response to your question:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/1g-n-t-tech/157911-how-turbo-your-1st-gen-2-0-nt.html

I did in fact use the search engine but all I found were threads asking how much boost will stock TURBO internals handle. I would rather find something thats there already instead of posting it again, but simply didnt find any answers for this question.

Ya good luck with that. With that kinda budget you cannot properly prepare the car and run it without blowing it to pieces. If you do turbo it plan on buying a new motor or car soon after because it won't last. And not to stereotype, most male high school students do not have the self control to leave the boost low and drive normally. Odds are you drive it hard all the time and grenade the motor. Great aspirations, just not realistic in your current position.

Yes, I know the 1g NT and turbo are mostly the same but he is getting this stuff from a 2G. Different car.

Im pretty sure that with enough patience and dedication even that budget could build a mid 12 second dsm. You are right about the way most high schoolers drive and beat the shit out of their cars. I never beat the shit out of mine, always obey the speed limit hell I barely ever go over 3000 rpm for that matter. All my money goes into making sure the car runs good (and it does) and saving up for the turbo setup. I know quite a few people who totalled their cars by being an asshole on the road so i think racing should be kept to the track. I really dont appreciate ## feedback but I guess its your opinion. Im just trying to make use of what I got.
