I have about 1400 miles on my rebuild. I am using new stock pistons, rings and the block was honed. The head has new valve seals and a few valves replaced. I took the block and head to Shepherd who sent them to Story motors to have the machining done (used to do Shepherds motor) I assembled the block and rotating assembly myself, the valves and valve seals were installed by Story's I recently did a boost leak test and found a whole bunch of little ones. I stopped all of them but one.. it is coming out of the valve cover breather. And It is leaking oil into the spark plug well, a little seepage out of the valve cover seals where it seats against the head somewhere near the oil filter housing (maybe unrelated)
I have:
1) done the test from the LICP= still a small leak
2)plugged the PCV hose=still a small leak
3) a compression test which yielded

160
161
161
168

4) wet compression test

170
181
181
181

Now those compression numbers look really good to me. I tried running the motor to see if getting things hot would make the rings seal for the boost leak test but seemed to have little affect. (motor was warm for compression test) No smoking during idle, no smoking during cruise. My dad says it puffs a little when I step on it, but not enough for me to notice from the drivers seat only to someone following. The part thats getting me is a good compression test and still leaking when done at the LICP. The turbo I am sure does not have much life in it as the car has 140,000 miles on it and I believe it is the original 14B.
Does anyone have any suggestions??? Only thing I can think of is maybe the motor could use a few more miles to seal up better at the rings which makes little sense with the results from the compression test. That maybe a valve seal isn't sealing but I would think it would show up on the compression test.
Let me know if anyone has any suggestions please let me know..

Oil on the plugs you say? maaaybe the valve seals didn't seal
Either that or the valve guides are worn out, did the machine shop inspect or replace them? How much pressure was the system holding at the licp with the pcv disabled?

It has new valve guides as well. I remember because it ended up costing more than the original quote. The oil is in the spark plug well, like under the spark plug cover. I think its being forced out of the oil cap. How much pressure would it take to blow out a valve seal?? One time the boost leak tester got a little carried away I think it was up wards of 25-30 PSI which should be fine I would think because people run that much boost. I was pressure testing at about 15 PSI and it would hold for about a min or so before it would leak down. Thanks for the responses so far. Oh and when I did the compression test the spark plugs looked pretty good no oil.
