I have a few problems, let me list them to make it easier:

1. I boost leak tested the car, and I can hold no pressure at all. I hear a sound coming from the compressor area of the turbo. I have a stock 14b. there's a lag in throttle response. I just changed the j-pipe gasket, and everything, including hoses, are tight.

2. Vacuum at idle is -10psi. sometimes when I get on the gas a little, engine will die.

3. after a little bit of running (kinda rough idle), white smoke will come from the catalytic converter.

so...

A. from what Ive read, I heard that stock 14b turbos are oil and water cooled, so is there a way that air is leaking from the compressor, and coolant is getting into the exhaust stream from the turbine?

B. I'm not sure exactly how the coolant is plumbed through the turbo. Is it a blown seal or crack that may be causing this? rebuild the turbo or get new one?

Thanks

Sounds like your turbo is gone. I wouldn't drive it until you either get a new turbo or rebuild yours.

I believe the water chamber is completely separated from the oil chamber and the only way to get coolant into the exhaust is to have a crack. Burned oil caused white smoke too.

This low vacuum says you may be having a vacuum leak

the smoke didnt have any blue tint to it, so i'm guessing it was coolant. maybe the coolant didn't leak into the turbine, but into the compressor side and went into the combustion chamber??? that way, i would have a boost leak and white smoke at the same time, which seems more possible.

anyways, a crack would mean a rebuild is not gonna do it by itself rite?
