I found one at the throttle body (90 throttle body) and it seems to be leaking behind it.

It also sounded like there was a leak coming from the intake manifold area on the passenger side, possibly even near the injectors. This was with the tester hooked up at the turbo.

Anyway, what is this part called and how would I go about fixing a leak with it? Just tighten it down or is there some kind of seal I need?

Never had to take it off before.

I believe you are talking about the throttle position sensor. If so you need new throttle body shaft seals. Preferably the metal clad mil-spec seals.

Your other leak no one can pinpoint without more info, but I would venture a guess that it is injector seals or pcv leaking. Although there are many other possibilities, those are the most likely culprits.

Use a bit of soapy water in a spray bottle to find out exactly where your leaks are as it seems you are guessing. But I see wetness so maybe you already did that?

I did, and it was in fact leaking behind the sensor.

The other leak I thought I might be hearing I didn't see any bubbles coming from anything but I could have swore I was hearing another leak from there. Maybe it was just a weird echo.

*edit* I just went to try to buy the shaft seals and can't seem to find anyone carrying them. Does anyone know a vendor that sells the shaft seals?

Check your injector seals. I had a boost leak which sounded like it was coming from the IM, but it was actually one of my upper injector seals.

I was thinking this as well. But I do think it will be the best course of action to just replace them since I am pretty damn sure they are the ones that came on the car from the factory.

That's the smart way to look at it. When mine blew out I had to take a vaccum cap and slice a piece off the same size as the spacer style seal, so I had a way to get back and forth to work. While I waited for them to come in, since I had to order them. It got me back and forth for the time being.

If it's behind that sensor, it's a shaft seal that's leaking. You either need to replace the shaft seals or replace the whole throttle body with a rebuilt unit.

That is in fact where it is leaking from. Still can't seem to find 90 seals though.

One of the seals for a '90 throttle body is the same size as '91-'99. I'm going to guess that it's the one under the spring (but not positive). The other one is a different size (8mmx12mmx3mm - according to this page).

Check eBay and see if you can find some applicable seals. Or just google that size and see what is out there. Another source might be Tim Zimmer - he might have the proper size seals for the '90 units.

Thanks for your help. I'll probably look into getting a TB from you in the future, right now I'm a bit limited on cash as I may be moving soon. Trying to do this cheaply for now.

Problem is one of the Seals is only 3mm not 4mm like the 91+... .

I think I have somewhere around a part number for something that will work.

Or This Guy Sells/Rebuilds whole Throttlebodys... .

EDIT:

Try seaching HERE for part number # 3930 CR 10x14x3 HM4 R

A local Parts store like Napa should be able to find them as well.

If not migh just pick up these HERE and use one and use the other to find a seal 1mm smaller for the other side.

EDIT EDIT: Should have refreshed the page before posting :|

Thanks for the idea. I guess I'll be having a trip to the local pick a part because while reinstalling the fuel rail after doing the injector seals one of the tiny 10mm screws decided to sheer off, which is odd because it did it when it wasn't even all the way on and it really didn't meet much if any resistance going in:hmm:. Oh well there is enough hanging out the backside to be able to pull it through. But my GF is going to be pissed that my car isn't driveable.

Fix one thing, break another:notgood:

Apparently Tim Zimmer does sell the 90 seals.

I fixed the broken bolt by buying small bolts at Wal-Mart and putting a nut on the end. After fixing that, I found out the lower seals were shot and one had even split in half.

So I went to home depot for the replacement seals.
