I recently purchased a glowshift boost gauge from a friend. The instructions say the T-fitting should have a brass restriction for the hose that goes to the gauge. It's missing. What is that restriction for and can I still hook up the gauge without it?

Next question. I ordered a Hallman MBC off of ebay. When it arrived it was a Blox Racing MBC that looks like the Hallman. It looks well made and the kit seems to have everything the Hallman kit has. But I am wondering, is it made by Hallman or is it a knockoff? Has anyone used it and what was your experience with it?

The restriction fitting that you are referring to is a "ferrule" fitting. It is to ensure that the plastic line that goes into the back of the boost gauge does not come out under pressure. It does this by clamping down when you screw the compression fitting together. Just go to your local auto parts store and ask for a 1/8 inch ferrule fitting for a oil line. It will be exactly what you need.

About your manual boost controller, from what I have researched, it seems to be an alright boost controller, judging by the price and design. It should be able to get the job done nicely.

Depending on the price of the knockoff, I would contact the seller and ask for a true Halman IMO.

If you wish to use the nylon tubing then you need the compression fitting. Personally I would upgrade the line to a silicone vacuum line by attaching a hose barb adapter to the back of the gauge.

If not, make sure to use some JB Weld or epoxy at the t fitting where the nylon tube is being inserted. If you don't then it will most likely leak or blow out.

I am debating what to do with the boost controller. It was $68 + $5 shipping. The Ebay listing didn't mention Blox Racing it just said Hallman (style) Red. So I feel like I got suckered. My visual impression of it is it looks like it is well made. It looks very similar to the Hallman but not identical. So I don't think it is a Hallman that has Blox name on it.

From what I have read the Hallman's seem to have a good reputation but I don't know about Blox. It does have a ceramic check ball like the Hallman Prx which is only a little more. I am trying to figure out what Blox reputation is now, as I consider sending it back. Does anyone have experience with the Blox?

Thanks for the input on the boost gauge guys.

when i got my glowshift boost gauge i just hooked it up to the existing line that i tapped into for my other boost gauge. if u need a t let me know i have extras!

If the Ebay listing said "Hallman Style'' , then there is not much that you do about it. It nowhere in the add said that it was a true Hallman boost controller, but it did say Hallman style. I would be willing to bet that it the Hallman style is what caught your eye.

Give it a try, see if it fully functions in the correct manner. If not, simply remove it and return it. I think that you will be just fine using it. You did not go out and buy, nor are you using the $3 "boost controller" from ebay so you are already doing good. Try it out.
