I did the free mod where you hack the bov dump tube in the intake. I used a peice of pvc pipe incase something wierd would happen. I sealed it up with jb weld.I took it out for a drive and my rmps whould drop down to like 500-600 after wot. I dont understand why. I put the stock tube back in and now it runs fine. But i dont know if the same thing would happen if i go to a upgraded intake pipe.

I recommend leaving the stock one in. I had this same issue when I did that to mine. I even have DSMLink, and tried to tune out the difference in airflow. It's a hit or miss kinda deal. Some of the MAS are calibrated so that you can do that, others are not. The air has a MUCH easier path after removing that. Also, it's been alleged that when your BOV opens (when coming off throttle) that it recirculates all that air back into your pipe which backs up in the pipe, and it causes the MAS to read more air, thus increasing fuel, thus making your car stall out. Mine would stall ALL the way out unless I gave it some gas. Of course, I was a dumbass, and didn't use a second pipe, so I then HAD to install the 3"MAF+T I had laying around.

You're lucky. Maybe you could start over, and just cut a little off at a time until you find how short it can't be, then go back one step. You'll be out all of 14" of PVC... (for a test and final piece)

As far as an upgraded pipe, I don't know. Maybe if the recirc tube entered the intake farther downstream. Like I said, I went straight to the 3"MAF and a Dejon pipe, so I don't know. Good luck.

so your saying that his bov pcv pipe he put was too short so therefore it back up in there? So basically by putting a longer one it shouldnt do that? ( Im Just keeping this in reference so for when i do that. )

yea, i thought that if i cut the pvc flush with the intake pipe on the inside it would free up the flow better. maybe thats why it didnt work.

Yes, that's what I'm speculating. This is after threads on DSMLink and after speaking to Darren at FFWD. Here is his email response to my question asking what would cause it:

"Oh that piece? Hell yeah man it won’t run right. The open BOV was sucking in unmetered air after the MAF and making the car rich.

If you install that MAF-T in, problem will go away. I’m surprised you screwed around with the stock MAF if you have on of those MAF-Ts laying around."

So, that's my story. Like I said, you could just try cutting a little at a time. And from the DSMLink forums, it looks like a hit/miss situation. some will do it, some won't. The same with hacking the honeycombs. Mine would die everytime with no modification to the airflow on DSMLink, and it still ran like crap after tuning with the Link for a while. Some cars will just run a bit rough with stock ECU and the bottom and side honeycombs out. If it works for you, great, if not, no biggy, it's not THAT big of a gain. Nothing FREE ever will be.

ohhhhh... thanks guys,my car would stall out after pushing in the clutch at higher revs(it would roll, then revs drop to 500,sometimes it would stall out and smell pig rich)

i did that mod a long time ago ... hmm..what if you rerout the tube to the stock airbox? *so the maf can read it?*

but its funny,i got a 3inch gmmaf lying around too, havent gotten around to installing it

No, that'd be the same as venting, except you'd be venting all that hot air back to the airbox to be metered by the MAS.

I think it's just kind of a strange occurence with the airflow dynamics in the intake that lets air flow a way you don't want it to. But, yeah, changing the dump of the recirc tube to anywhere other than somewhere after the MAS would be the same as venting to the atmosphere.

I say just put a new longer tube in, or put the 3" MAF+t on there. I didn't put mine on, because at the time I was afraid of doing a lot of electrical crap. But then I actually read the instructions. Holy crap!... NO reason not to just slap it on. I didn't know I didn't even need the white and purple wires (I have DSMLink and no Nitrous) Just do it, and get rid of that problem forever.
