I just installed a brand new 60-1 garrett and its plumes smoke when idling and a little while driving. I bought the turbo from a reputable shop in miami and it was brand spanking new. The previous turbo had alot of shaft play and leaked oil ungodly. The guy from the turbo shop explained to me that it is most likely the oil built up in the exhaust from the previous turbo. Can this be possible? It's been 150 miles. The smoke usually only plumes when the car is warmed up. When the turbo went bad previously, it happened almost insantly. It happened once before massively when i kinda got down on the car (10 PSI) then stopped a lil while after it cooled down. Ive only taken very short drives and really haven't notice. Today the car was on about 2 hour straight. Thnx (Sorry for the long post)

Doubt its the turbo, did you prime it when you installed it? Have you cleaned out your Intercooler there could be oil built up in it as for being built up in the exhaust dosent sound that likely, it would have probably burnt off by now.

I havn't messed with the intercooler at all. It did seem unlikely to me that the exhaust could have that much oil in it to burn off for such a long time. I asked the guy at World Wide Racing turbo and injection(WWR Turbo) and he said that the intercooler wouldn't cause it to smoke like that but i did see that as a possibility. I'm just worried, it was a PITA to put that turbo in. Thnx

Yea if there was oil in the exhaust it would have burnt off and probably the same with the IC. Is there any oil or residue on the outside of the turbo? So did you prime it before you started the car which if you dont know is taking out the MPI fuse and spinning the motor over to get the turbo nice and oiled up.

found the problem. believe it or not 150 miles no more 60-1 Garrett. It went bad. Lotta shaft play. Gonna go to the Turbo Shop tommorrow with the entire car, drop it off and tell him to fix my sh*t. Thanks for the input

That blows, never would of thought that with Garret and only 150 miles on it. Hope that they fix it for you.
