Blown?

Long story short...

Had my Talon on the Freeway today, took it up to 80 and it seemed fine, until it started losing power (not boost, just losing power). Pulled over and discovered the idle was extremely rough, full engine chugging, and a whole lot of blue smoke coming out the tail. Not to mention oil on the ground, in the front cover, etc... Thankfully, there's no knocking.

Any ideas?



Oh yeah, and to top it off I got a half of a scissors stuck into my left rear when I pulled over on the freeway. What it was doing there I'd love to know...

u gonna part the old engine out? i could use an iac if its a 90

Why would I sell parts I'm obviously going to need. A new engine means a long block, that does NOT include anything electrical.

As for it running lean, I don't know, I've had the car about a month. In that time I've put in a new fuel pressure regulator, and a new fuel filter as far as the fuel system is concerned. As far as ignition, it's got a new coil, wires, and plugs.

You can still boost with a blown turbo just FYI. It only takes 2 min if that to pull the intake pipe off and check for shaft play.

depends. i couldn't, as my 20g exhaust wheel ejected itself all the way down and out my 3 inch exhaust.

and yep, when it blew i knew what happened, specially with the clankin sound going down the pipe. have to get some pictures of the carnage from years ago.

wow that is low compression, not only the 2nd cylinder but all of them. Isn't the service limit like 130 something?

Anyways, build it bigger or go home

I haven't been able to find anything in my manual stating what the compression is supposed to be for a '92 4G63T, so I'm not sure.

165,185,190,187

165 is what I've been hearing the most.

Well ... took the top half of the engine apart. And discovered a nuclear meltdown.

Cylinder 2 - Chunk missing out of the wall, beyond bore ability, heavily scored.
Piston 2 - Melted landings, melted piston facing.
Head - Cracked at Cylinder 2

It also appears that the block was previously bored out, and stock pistons were re-used. The block was also not fully bored, they left the upper part unbored.



Anyone have a good 4G63 block laying around?
