So I ordered this catch can from extremepsi.

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Megan Racing Oil Catch Can *OVER STOCK SALE*

Installed the two lines on the pcv valve and side valve on the valve cover. Started to drive and noticed blue smoke everywhere. Popped the hood and saw oil oozing out the dipstick. Then I realized that this can didn't have a breather valve on it like my other one. I installed my other can with the breather valve and it still blows a consistant ammount of blue smoke. Along with that my fake 16g was already starting to go (blowing smoke at ~10psi)

So what I'm thinking is

A. The smoke I'm seeing is excess that just needs to be burned off

B. The increase in oil pressure finally pushed the turbo over the line

C. Blown headgasket from increased pressure

I'll do a compression test and leakdown test after I go to Jacks and get their opinion.

Oozing oil out of the dipstick - from running a sealed catchcan. Once you switched to filter it should have gone away. (You DO know the drawbacks of your current catchcan setup, right?)

Wait for any excess to burn off, then check intake pipe right after turbo for oil and any shaft play.

Compression test.

No point in going to Jack's. They won't know any more than what you know.

Start with checking the ebay16g for excess in/out and side/side play as your first culprit. Hook you crankcase ventilation system up like stock to remove a variable. pcv to manifold and vc breather to intak pipe. Do a compression test as well

So what would be the propper way to hook up a catch can?

Ok. Compression test got me 100-125-130-125. Can't tell if it's burning excess oil or if it's leaking out the hg. There's no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant. Does that big of a gap inbetween cylinders indicate a blown hg?

Thats on a 7bolt? It should definitely be higher than that but forget the actual spec(165-175?). #1 is obviously much lower than the rest too. Did you try putting oil in the cylinders to see if they go up?

when you did the comp. test was the car warmed up? those numbers all look low, are you pushing excess coolant into your recovory jug and it never goes down after cool down? I'd say your turbo is probably done due to the extra oil pressure. was this blue smoke in the engine bay or out the exhaust?

Car was definitly cold. I'll go warm it up and do another. The smoke was coming out the exhaust but it's also smoking slightly out the oil cap when I open it. Could the seals on the turbo be so far gone that it smokes when not in boost?

Smoking out your crank case is more of worn rings... no use speculating now, get that compression test done properly. Hopefully it's a false symptom.

Was there ALOT of air blowing out of the oil Cap?
If so I would be doing a leak down test like Yesterday...

Those compression numbers are good except for #1. For some reason we only get about 125-135psi when testing up at this altitude. Try spraying some marval mystery oil down #1 cylinder or some wd40 and recheck. If compression comes up then you most likely have a worn ring on #1. This will cause too much crank case pressure wich will shoot out the dipstick.

I'll try that. And a leakdown test. I think the high crankcase pressure was caused by my non-venting catch can. My setup was pretty much the same as running a line from the pcv valve to the side port on the valve cover.

your definatly burning oil out that turbo, probably your motor aswell. when you get on it is there a lot of black smoke out the tailpipe (a little black smoke is normal)? black smoke is blow by (oil past the rings) that would be another sign of shot rings. do not spray wd40 into your cylinders.

Actually Jack's brother Kevin figured it out. Running the catch can the way I did caused the pcv valve to stay closed. I ran the pcv line back to the IM and just put a breather on the side port. Now the smoke is gone.

You DO know the drawbacks of your current catchcan setup, right?

I'm pretty sure that if anybody knew of a drawback on any setup they would change it...

Not yet. I think I'll just replace with with a real E16g
