ok so i rebuilt my 92 talons motor about 3 months ago. it has everything new and redone in it including boring, pistons, valves..the works. so i decide to take it to the strip. on my first run, i get half track and suddenly i hear a bang and a LOUD puttering sound from my motor. i got towed back to the pits and tried to run it..shes starts up fine, with a little miss. and i notice it pushing exhaust out of the back side of the head. im royally pissed off at it so i havent done much of anything to diagnose it yet and was just curious if anyone else had this problem. I recieved a knock off boost controller the night before and i installed it. i think it was allowing the turbo to overboost. so when the boost had no where to go. it blew out the head gasket. thats what would explain the exhaust coming out of it and the compression sound...however....there's no coolant to be seen leaking out. please help if anyone knows anything about something like this! Do a compression test.

I suppose it's possible to blow the headgasket out between the cylinder and the edge of the block, but it's one of the thicker points of the gasket (I've never seen it blow out out there.) It usually heads for a cooling passage or between cylinders.
