Blown FP3052 replacement options

I got 1G that was supposed to have a good FP3052 on it and of course its shot. Has play in and out and up and down. IC pipes out of the turbo have puddles of oil in it. Since you can't get this turbo rebuilt, is there any options as far as a different chra replacement that would fit in the same housing?

A 3052 is an off the shelf Garrett 3076 in an FP bolt-on turbine housing. You can buy a new CHRA for it, or send the CHRA in for the exchange program and save some money if it's re-usable. Also, you can get rebuild kits for Garrett BB turbos, you'd just have to find a place to VSR balance it once it's rebuilt (assuming the wheels and center housing are intact).

I talked to FP and they said its not possible to rebuild them as they can't get the parts and garrett won't sell them so idk? Thats the information i was looking for as far as putting a new CHRA into it. So they 3076 CHRA would fit without having to change anything, just pop out the bad one and put in the new?

That's exactly what I did. When my FP 3052's CHRA went south and seized, I replaced it with the FP HTA DSM76. It was like a whole new car, it seems to spool much faster.

Double-check with FP to make sure their HTA76 CHRA will be a direct drop-in on the compressor side...something tells me that machining will be necessary, but I could be wrong.

If you have as much shaft play as you claim, Garrett's not going to be able to do much as far as an inexpensive replacement CHRA under their exchange program. Last one I sent in was a 35R with turbine inducer damage, no shaft play, and it cost me $802.

The HTA76 has a smaller inducer than a standard 3076, you'd need their compressor housing with it (not that FP will sell just a CHRA).

it doesn't have a ton of play, but when i pulled the ic piping off, there was a bunch of oil in there. I might just bolt it up once i swap engines and see if it works at all. I bought the car with a blown headgasket and turbo was supposed to be great, but thats not the case. It has some in/out play in it and a tad of up/down

Depends what you mean by "some". Ball bearing GT turbos do not have a thrust system- the thrust loads are fully-contained within the bearing cartridge....so it's normal for even a new GT turbo to have a little shaft movement in all directions.

GTX3076R should drop right into your exhaust housing. That's probably what I'd do if my 3052 ever goes.

ok thats good to know, this is my first ball bearing turbo and when i felt the play the first time in all directions i got quite worried, but after checking it a few times i think its fine. There isn't to much so im gonna bolt it up and run it

I guess the only other thing would be is why there is oil puddles in my intercooler piping

Do your PCV lines route back to the intake? If so the oil may not be the fault of the turbo.
