Block Girdle

Greetings all,

I am about to get a motor (wideblock g64b with 1g head), it has never ran before. I was reading up on main girdles to help support the block during high rpms. Can I just grind the girdle where it is needed or do I need to line hone the mains etc. Does it matter if the mains are already honed?

It's recommended that the block be line honed. You don't grind the girdle, just the block in places that need be. Also if it's be honed it needs to be honed again with the girdle.

Now is there no girdle and only main caps in that bottom end? I have seen fully stock 6 bolt bottom ends rev to 8500+ with no issues and putting down very good power. The blocks current caps are line honed factory and if you change to the girdle it requires cutting the caps and rehoning it. Very tedious and costly process. I believe if I wanted to do it on my 2.4 it was around 300 bucks. If the motor is already together and new why take it apart anyway?
