Blinkers blinking faster than usual. wtf?

For some reason my blinkers just randomly started blinking faster. The only thing I did before it happened was unhook my pass. side radiator fan, and install a FMIC, I havn't hooked any other fans up to that pass. side location yet.


Any ideas anyone?

looks like something is shorted, blinkers usually do that when that happens.

check all electrical connections and if any bulbs have blown out.

Also during the process of the FMIC install I let my battery die while leavin doors and trunk open etc.. so I recharged the battery.

Which fuses etc should I look for? I seriously dont want to have to look thru every single fuse/relay/etc..

Sounds like one of your turn signals are burnt out.

Many flasher relays are designed to blink about twice the normal speed when a bulb is burned out.

there's a fuse box in your hood compartment that has all of your light fuses....check there

Anyway, do what these guys all said and then get back with us. I've got the same problem but all my fuses and bulbs are good. The rear-outer passenger bulb comes on but is dim, like it's not getting full voltage. It blinks fast with no lights on, and blinks even faster when all of the headlights and whatnot are on and there's a load on the system. I think perhaps the relay might be bad, I've just been too lazy to replace it.

I just had the same problem, and couldn't figure it out because all the turn bulbs lit up. Found out that my right rear was out , cause when I hit my brakes, then it wouldnt light up. Don't know if you tried that yet.

A bad ground to a bulb can cause it as well.

I have 2 DSMs and have never had a problem with the front bulbs. The rear bulbs on my 96 Eclipse shake loose sometimes and cause the blinker issue. I actually took a file to them once to flatten down the connection on the bulb to make better contact.

I never heard the blinker fluid joke before. He/we were kidding. All of the others gave really good advice and if you can't laugh about your troubles with these cars, then you won't enjoy them.

A sense of humor is a must in order to be a DSM owner and be proud of it.

I was trying to not have to go thru checking all those fuses under the dash, I'm lazy since its 30deg outside heh.

Twice a month, cruise past a closed strip mall and use your reflections in the shop windows to inspect every bulb on the car.

I've found the bad fuse/relay which? heh

Here are some pics..

It's the radiator fan fuse in the big black box by the air intake. I had the relays wired to a switch in my dash to turn my fans on whenever I wanted them on and the wire came loose and blew the fan.

So any idea what these are called when I go ask someone at advance/autozone/carquest/dealership? and are they an OEM only part?

Now I'm going to have to get a ride 30-45min into town because I can't drive my car more than a few blocks w/o knock spiking up like crazy and water boiling

P.S. It says 30A on the plastic cap on the top.

Ok guys just went outside and replaced it with the power windows 30a fuse and turned the car over and it didnt blow, so I drove it around, for say 15min, came back, fans still were not on, looked at the fuse, it was blown.

Heres how I wired up the fan:

Blue/white, blue/green, and blue all twisted togeather w/ twist yellow cap

Black/white, black, and black all twisted togeather w/ a twist yellow cap

I'm guessing you cannot combine the 2 powers and 2 grounds to make it stay on high Anyone else agree to that being the reason my fuses keep blowing and the fans not coming on?

It's a fusible link, you can find them in the same section in the auto parts store as the fuses and other electrical goodies. It's fine to combine the grounds, but you don't wanna combine the powers. Try wiring them in series to switch and you should be ok, that'll keep your current constant, but voltage will drop. If that doesn't work, then just abandon one of the power sources and wire them up in parallel, that work opposite of the above and you'll have a lower current across the link.

ok well guys, I went to the local car store and got 2 of those fusable links, put one back in the power window part and the other back in the fans part.

I took a volt meter to all 4 of the wires in different ways, it never blew a fuse and I never got a single reading AT ALL. I did this with the car hot and with the car cold and with the AC switch on (turned green not orange) and with it off. NOTHING! Also none of the fuses ever blew inside the box, I even switched out the fan relays with the horn relay and pressed the horn to test to see if they worked and they all worked flawlessly. What else could there be?


P.S. The driver side fan now comes on though so I know that fuse works.

Does anyone know how to purposely get your blinkers to blink faster? I had a after market relay in my 98 Saturn that had a dimmer switch on it and you could turn the knob to slow the blinkers way WAY down or turn it the other way to basically turn them into strobes. Any help would be great cause the relay from my saturn doesn't fit my gst connections.

my 2 cents~

1. it's the computer doing that so you know there's a light out. did you check all the lights?

2. the light is getting too much power. find out what else is wired to that light.
