So far I've gathered the following information:

1. When installing a black top CAS (1G CAS) in a '95-'96 the signal is combined rather than separated (CAS/CPS).

2. The signal from the 1G CAS is inverted when sent to the ECU.

3. According to RRE the pins at the ECU must be swapped to help things run smoother, and also a harness must be made, or bought [through them], to make it work (self-explanatory).

My question is can you just swap the location of the ignition wires rather than at the ECU [like they've done here]? Just curious I only need this to last long enough to get the money to buy the AEM EMS Series II (for run of sequential ignition and other things).

Also would using this CAS really have any affect on the Series II EMS? Or can that be sorted out in the tuning which one goes where as each one has it's own trigger input.

Yes. The crank and cam signals both come from the black top CAS. Yes. You can just swap the plug wires, or the wires on the coils from the ignitor. The ones you need to swap at the ECU are the fuel injectors because you can't stretch them around in the stock harness easily. It is simpler to just swap the pins. It runs like ass if you don't synchronize the injectors with the valves... I know. I tried it when I first put my 1g CAS in.

The other issue you are going to have to deal with is the P0300 random misfire code you will get around 3000 rpm at cruise. I don't suggest the "pot mod", but it does work. It is how I dealt with it until I had an ECU I could turn the p0300 code off in.

I see... that's what they must have been talking about - I think I misunderstood that part. Now it definitely makes sense; I'm just swapping the injectors to match the ignition. Would this be a problem on the AEM EMS or would I be able to actually set them on the EMS (I'm sure I would - don't see why not)?

No, it won't be an issue with the AEM unit. You'll just set the sequence and forget about it. It is only an issue with the 95 and 96 ECU because of some crap Mitsu thought was coming when the OBD2 change was enacted.

The 97 thru 99 cars are compatible with the 1g CAS without having to swap around anything because whatever they anticipated happening didn't, so they just went back to the way they had been running them before.

Figured it out:

1G Injector Phasing: 1-0-2-3
2G Injector Phasing: 0-3-1-2

So change the injector phasing to what the 1G would be and then change the ignition phasing, from 0-2-1-3 to 1-3-0-2, and I should be good to go until I install my AEM Smart Coils and run sequential ignition which in turn should be the exact same as my current waste-spark setup just now in sequence.

Am I on the right track?
