My friend was behind me today, I'm running about 14-15 psi. He said everytime he would hear my turbo spool black smoke would come out of the exhuast, he said not a lot, but a noticable amount. I can't seem to find what causes black smoke.

Running rich causes black smoke in most cases.

Do a boost leak test.
Check your turbo for shaft play while you're doing the boost leak test. It couldn't hurt to monitor the status of your turbo shaft.

I say blown turbo. Last year every time i boosted i shot out black smoke. Or during shifts on low boost. Check for shaft play cause its most likely a blown turbo, since youd probably really notice if you had a boost leak and you dont have any fuel management to worry about running rich on your own

How would he know if he had a boost leak or not without doing the test? You can't just look under the hood or check the dash for the 'boost leak dummy light'.

'Most' of the turbos I've seen go bad either whine or kick out oil and blue smoke. I'd suspect a boost leak before a blown turbo.
