Yesterday i was out doing some tuning of some higher boost levels since teh new AFPR has changed my mapping a bit and i was laying into it gradually in 3rd and turning the boost up 1 psi at a time while watching AFR's. Well, when i got to 21 PSI teh front wheels started spinning, not steadily but trading off side to side alsmot like torque steer. IT was a great feeling, but i know it won't = better ET's.

Anyone else spinning tires in third w/o hammering into it from full spool in 2nd?

Just curious.

I had the same problem when I finished installing my 50 TRIM as my wheels were also spinning. One thing I got to improve ET's was a Quaife LSD in the tranny and also lowered the car more from the front. Also, I will buying slicks for next season in order to improve my 60 ft.

I got slicks, but when i had my tranny out last time, there were no LSD's available in the US for my car. The quaifes were stuck in customs and the KAAZ units have to have an order of 30 or more units before they'll import anymore for teh DSM tranny.

I couldn't imagine being able to at least halfway hook up in 1st or 2nd gear, that would just be the greatest feeling ever since i've owned the car :D I've got 26 x 10 x 15 inch clicks and i still spin them all through 2nd at only 19 PSI ( i set my best time at 19 PSI on slicks... 12.08 @ 117 MPH at KCIR (kansas city international raceway) If i would have had an LSD i would have surely broken 11's that day, but traction was scarce and my tranny was acting up..no surprise there. it actually wouldn't go into 4th for about 1/2 the trip down there. But, i figured i hardly ever use 4th in the 1/4 mile anyway, i just run past the usable rev range in 3rd to avoid the shift

I'd love to find a used quaife if possible. RRE was supposed to call me when they got theres in from the docks where cystoms had them, but they never did, so i guess i'll buy some where else since they couldn't even do a follow up to make themselves some money. Especially since they said "would you like us to call you as soon as we get them in?" and i said "yes the sooner the ebtter, i promise i'll buy it, you should have records of how much i've spent ther in the past" but yet they never called. I would actually prefer a KAAZ because of all the road race cars i work on, but the ring gear area of the KAAZ is known to break on hard launches with slickes and sometimes even from wheel hop on a road race car. They both have their ups and downs i guess, but i could live with teh quaifes limitations

I got motor mounts, but i need new ones. i only have the front and rear torque mounts, so now the front ( timing cover area) mount is completely ruined, the rubber is seperated from the metal completely.

Pick yourself up some Prothanes and completely replace the front and trans mounts.

Do those come with the complte metal parts of the moun as well? Min aree shot because the rubber is broken away in one place on the front toque mount.. The rear one is fine though, i just replaced it, My timing cover mount is completely shot uless i could press a hole new insert into it. The tranny mount is fine too.

I have the cheesy Energy Suspension inserts in the front and rear "torque mounts", But what i'm hoping to find is a kit where i don't have to go buy all the stock mounts over again because the pressed in parts are torn. I want to press in good parts, not put bandaids in teh holes in teh stok mountsd. I think there's a shop here that has some on his shelf. MIght have to go look in person:)

Prothane Main Page

When you install the Prothanes, the timing belt side and trans mounts are completely removed. What I mean is, you take out all of the rubber and also the metal ring in there completely out. Then the new polyurethane mount is split in two and is just pressed in from either side. If you look at the link above this will make sense. Even though your trans mount is fine, you should just replace all 4 when you do it (or just the 2 since you already have the inserts on the torque mounts). The Prothanes just come with inserts for the torque mounts too (like you already have), so you don't remove the rubber from them.

Edit: Here are two more installation articles to check out.

The prothane mounts are complete replacement on the Timing belt and transmission side mounts. You have to cut or press out the metal sleeve and any rubber that is left from the original mount and press the prothane ones in. The front and rear mounts are inserts into the stock mounts.

edit: Damn you for being faster than me.

What kind of tires are you running when your breaking lose in 3rd? I run 22-23psi on the street with my 3052 & have never broken lose in 3rd. I have also ran 25-26psi at the track & holds 3rd no problem as well. This is a summer car so only sees warmer road temps & obviously thats on completely dry & clean roads (yeah it will break lose no problem with some dampness/wet, debris on the road etc.) My street tries are Kumho MX's in 225 width. Have urthane motor mounts (& shock mounts, though don't think they make much difference for straightline), Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks, set to 4 all around (5 is firmest, set front to 1 & rear to 5 at the track). Also running a Quaife LSD to complete the package. Car makes right around the 380-430 crank hp mark to compare.

Is your suspension still stock? If so thats probably hurting things, stock springs & shocks are weak & you get lots of weight transfer off the front wheels & too the back wheels, which exactly what you don't want to happen in a fwd. Get a nice set of lowering springs (firmer is better in the rear but probably still want a combo that works well as a DD'r) & look for something that drops the front slightly more then the rear (also to help prevent weight transfer). Then pair them up with a nice adjustable shock to help firm things up as well.

Thansk for all the advice on the prothanes. And yes, i know a lot of it has to do with me being on stock suspension ( but i wanted it to be the ultimate sleeper for years) I've got new suspension coming ( tokiko 5 ways and eibach springs ) I just didn't have the cash for true coil overs :(

I mainly wasn't concerned about it, just wondering if anyone else has gotten to feel there FWD break loose in third on the highway by just laying into it and slowly building up to 21psi or so. I usually keep the boost around 18 or so, but i wanted to crank it up and just see where teh AFR's were at. I guess I'm mainly impresseed that i can feel the way the compressor's map reaally compares to the airflow of the turbo at different boost levels ( at least in my mind i can , maybe i'm kookoo). Mine starts making large jumps in air flow after 19 or so PSI. It was more or less a nice thing to feel. the roads were dry but it was quite cool out. I'm running yokohama tires ( i forget the model and its only 23* outside so that will have to wait hahha ) and i have them at 32 PSI
