big 16g turbo

Wassup fellow dsmers, so I was browsing on craigslist & I seen a big16g turbo some guy was selling. It had little shaft play but the housing has a small crack on it. On the exhaust side where the exhaust manifold bolts up. He only wants 150 for it. I'm tempted to buy it but I had a few questions. I have a stock 14b Turbo, can't I just use my exhaust housing and make one turbo with the two that I have? & if not can I just weld it & grind it smooth? Or should I just not even bother with it & save up for a new one. Oh & ot is a real mitsu turbo. Thanks, any input will be appreciated. I'll try to post pics

For your 1g, the turbo swap will be bolt on.Nothing extra needed.

150$ Tho for a 16g with some shaft play and a crack in the hotside.IDK man, sounds fishy to me.

Yeah don't pay $150 for that piece of shit. There are usable bolt-on turbos here in our classifieds from time to time for not much more.

Yes your 14b hotside will fit, but it is slightly smaller which will effect spool and top end a bit. That's a lot for whats wrong though.

Maybe try to low ball him to hell if you want it bad enough.

Just check the fs section. Good low mileage evo316gs are in there from time to time for a decent price.

Ok thanks guys, I really want that turbo. But I think I wanted it too bad, yea I'll just keep saving my pennies & wait for that killer deal on a evo 3 turbo

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! but that's not even the case!

just a word of advice. when looking for a 16g make shure its not made in china. youll have nothing but problems man . learned my lesson.

i have a china 16g and im scared as hell to boost it more thatn 12lbs. had to buy it since my 14b blew and the 16gs at that time about 2 years ago were hard to find and expensive. now i saved enoguh to buy me a decent turbo so i wont have to think about reliability issues. but like the others, theres a lot of good deals on dsm classifieds that i have used

my crx evo3 started burning oil after 2k miles. then i rebuilt it myself and ive got 10k on it since the rebuild with no issues yet on 16psi. the only problem with it now is the crappy metal in the hotside, the wg flapper slides around and sticks open sometimes. long story short ive wasted 250 for the turbo and about 50 in misc parts and rebuild and now im looking to get a 20g . SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
