Which is overall a better car to start with and better to mod and what has the most potential right out the box, 1997 Eclipse GS or 1999 Civic SI? Give me some info pleeease

civic.... vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvtec mang..
but seriously IMO the civic would be better for performance sounds weird saying that, but the nt eclipse will always look sooo nice

Ok, what would be better if the eclipse had cam gears, intake, header, 2.5" exhaust, UD pulley, 60mm TB and a JET ECU and the SI was stock?

Non turbo eclipse/talons 420a are slow. They are slow as the honda accord 4cyl mod for mod. If those were you two choices, I would go for the SI.

that is just stupid to compare a modded GS to a stock SI. IMHO both suck because they are NA. Yes my opinion is biased because Ive always hated NA 4 cyl, but to each his own. This can be argued, but Hondas are usually more reliable than DSMs so just go with that I guess.

I don't know much about Si's but my car seems to be faster than this girls Si and he has way more mods than I do..i think only intake and Headers/back exaust and I still manage to pull from her..and all I have is an Intake but I am gonna go Turbo soon..wonder if her si would kill me if it were turboed? but I like my RS even though its slow when its not turbo but it will get faster..but it takes alot of money...

hondas don't take chips....

HERE IS WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE THE HONDA!!!!

Cuz 2 years down the road w/e you paid for either car, the honda will be worth 5k more on average. BUY the honda.

Stock SI's run 15.5 or so.

Stock n/t DSMs run 16.5 or so.

SI's are much better platform for modifying, upgrading.

i personally would find a high mileage 2g GST or similar but of those two choices id go with the SI.. they have excellent aftermarket available and ive seen some turbocharged SI's put down some serious numbers... or if you wanted to keep it na they have some excellent choices that route too
